An impostor illegally used a New Mexico's man vote three days before the actual person came in to vote. The incident occurred in Rio Arriba County. When the real person came to cast his ballot, he was at first turned away, being told that he had already voted.
Only when the real person contested, saying he had not in fact voted, did election officials review their files and compare the signatures they had on record with the one signed by whoever voted three days earlier.
The signatures did not match. Why the officials did not check this in the first place has not been stated, and required voter ID laws were not in place.
Bobbi Shearer, who works for New Mexico's Secretary of State, stated, "Under current law there are no means available to poll workers to help them determine if a voter is actually the person he says he is."
The actual voter was then able to cast a provisional ballot, but election officials have not decided whether it can be counted.

For every case like this where the actual registered voter shows up to vote how many are there where the real voter does not vote and no one ever knows?
How many where there is no real voter and just fake registrations?
Depending on how they run things, it may be impossible to identify the ballot that the fraudulant voter cast. They’re anonymous once they’re in the box.
But, I’m guessing that whatever party the real guy belonged to, he and his family just became die-hard fans of voter ID.
Unfortunately you are correct. Until conservatives start voting early and often using Democrats names Democrats will continue to oppose protecting votes from being stolen.
Thanks ... “call the lawyer” ... sometimes it’s the only thing to do.

But wait! I thought voter fraud doesn’t happen!
Well, that is not actually the law in PA. The law in PA is: anyone still in line at the time the polls officially closes will get to vote. Polls close here at 8PM. Around 8:30 we start to see people arriving. The Republican lawyer tells the election judge she has to send a clerk out to mark the end of the line RIGHT NOW and tell them nobody past the end of the line will be able to vote.
Judge [student and very obviously a Democrat] says she will not do it; they're too far behind to spare a clerk. Lawyer reads her the law, which says clerk or such person as the judge shall appoint has to do it. So the election judge appointed the lawyer. Immediately, the Democrats' pollwatcher calls downtown because he doesn't want a 'Pub lawyer watching the line. End result was the judge deputized both lawyers to watch the end of the line once the Dem arrived.
My recollection is that those and a number of other provisions were invalidated after Bush v. Gore election reforms. In 2002 and after, all of those students who arrived at the end of the line would be allowed to vote, provisionally. [And their votes would be thrown out.]
Maybe if New Mexico Secretary of State (Republican) Dianna Duran and the entire New Mexico Bureau of Election Resources were thrown into jail this travesty could be quickly straightened out.
Don’t absentee ballots have to be cast in voter identification envelopes ? At least that is the system in Indiana although we have strict ID laws so I doubt there is widespread serious fraud in the first place.
This is impossible, of course. I am constantly told that voter fraud never happens. /sarc
Speaking from experience, Rio Arriba County is the hotbed of fraud.
Here in Nevada, it is the same. I can claim to be anybody, I can get a list of old people in homes, or just use my neighbors name. Even if I voted using my neighbors name, and something similar to this happens, my fraudulent vote would still be counted. Image what I could do if I had a whole acorn list of fraudulent names to work with?
I’ve voted Absentee Ballot in WNY for a number of years due to disability, where my wife fills in the form per my wishes & signs off as POA. She’ll go to the local polling place herself, and I’ve often mentioned she should hand-deliver ballot there instead of mailing it, and have them check the signature book they use to see if I already “voted” ;).
My understanding was that absentee ballots received by the proscribed date are set aside and counted only when any of the races involved fall within a 0.5% margin, but I may be mistaken. This area being a ‘Rat stronghold, I’m more inclined to believe that they never look at them or just toss them
You're on to something. Simply take every person's picture and associate it with their address etc.
It would nullify the argument that requiring an ID would disenfranchise the poor.
And it would help inhibit fraud.
(BTW, privacy in voting allows one to avoid social pressure to vote a certain way. Think about the recent union controversies.)
Early voting at the polling station must be considered ‘absentee’ here which guarantees there is a signature check before the ballot is issued along with the signed and dated envelope identification plus an optional SS sign-in. And without any of these checks for non in person voting, fraud isn’t happening by and large at the polls, it’s happening in the mail.
“It was improper for the judge of elections to force him to file a provisional ballot;”
Here in New Mexico, there would be no alternative BUT to give the guy a provisional ballot. Once a person votes, true identity or imposter, the computer system will not print out another ballot for said individual. This IS New Mexico, which rivals Chicago for voter fraud. State republican election lawyers are on call on Election Day. They do nothing. Dianna Duran, republican SOS, does nothing. The new voting machines are programmed so cleverly that when they print out a ballot, for somebody who uses the audio assistance feature (not a pen), the machine fills in the ovals making it look like it was done by hand rather than a ‘neat’ inside the oval mark.
I’ve often thought one way to draw attention, and perhaps get something done, would be to early or mail-in vote for ALL democrat politicians and state employees. Not that I would advocate such, just sayin’.
impossible of course, however chances are good that the two would cancel each other out....otherwise what's the sense at all of casting an illegal vote. The intention is to insure that a democrat gets the vote so I would assume that repubs are targeted.
In Cal the provisional ballot triggers an investigation by the registrars office. So it can be after the votes are announced that this one will be looked into.
If it is shown the second person is legit then their votes stands. In theory if the votes were different the final numbers should be changed.
The first fraud should be charged, but if they don’t do ID the vote can be deleted from the count and the person walks free unless they know where he is.
Provisional votes are not unusual. Usually the person came to the wrong poll or moved or some such thing.
Voter ID won’t reduce those, but it would directly reduce fraud. And that’s why democrats oppose it. How many people are functioning in the US today without a photo ID. Even the homeless have an ID.

he was not turned away, they let him cast a provision ballot
they’ll end up counting both votes
