Good day. I downloaded the new and improved OS, OS X Yosemite. At first blush, there are some features I miss about Mavericks, but I need to waste.....I mean, spend more time with Yosemite. It's too early to say "yay" or "nay", or perhaps the conclusion won't be so black and white, unless you're a "I HATE! all things Apple...including those snobby Mac Users", of course.
What say you about OS X Yosemite? Any pointers/advice/recommendations by you techies out there?
Well, you really should try a Mac out for a little while. No disrespect or sarcasm intended. It’s ironic that you mention “contempt”. The only contempt I’ve witnessed consistently are by anti-Apple users. For instance, there isn’t one Freeper on this thread who said ANYTHING degrading about any other OS/brand. You brought that up. Inevitably an anti-Apple Freeper or troll will show up and start throwing the accusations around. I’m not suggesting that you’re one of these individuals.
In my thread there was the note concerning the hate all Mac users have experienced, but that was more of a joke.
I’ve used Windows XP, Windows 8ate, and Internet Explorer for years as well. We’ve used Dell products longer than our Macs. It’s a matter of preference and/or job requirements.
Of all the brands out there, I find Macs to be most reliable, well built, designed, virtually devoid of bugs, and without the “strings” you have to deal with in using other brands on the market. As I mentioned, it’s a matter of preference. Apple Support is by far the best tech support out there.
Mac-Haters are notorious in highjacking forums and reviews just to level personal attacks and accuse Mac users of being snobs. I have yet to meet these so-called “Mac snobs”.
I’m envious. I was just looking at a 27” Thunderbolt the other day. It’s off the charts.
:^D
Well, I must admit that i had to reboot the mindset on the iPhotos. I tried to export photos to my fd. At first it seemed I would have to click photo by photo in order to do this. I thought, “There’s no way in heck that Apple designed the new OS iPhoto in this way”. Finally figured it out.
Thankfully I’m enjoying the relearn curve on the Yosemite.
You explained it far better than could’ve, Bill93. :^)
How do I add a calendar to my drop down Notification Center? I tried poking the box, but short of doing this the right way, I thought I’d skirt that and minor detail and ask the pros.
Interesting — to me it looks more “cartoon-y”.
I’m a longtime Mac user, but I just refuse to upgrade into the cloud, accept intrusive biometrics, dumpt my trusted and reliable application for apps I don’t even have available without a wifi connection, etc...
Apple is turning all of their computers into an iPhone of various sizes, and I think it just sucks. It’s the deliberate destruction of something wonderful. I’m not 14, I’m not a bobble-headed liberal soccer mom, and no, you can’t have my freaking DNA, pulse, bloodpressure, database my organ systems, and turn my computer and private data into your scanned and cross-referenced property sold to both the NSA and every marketer on the planet while I am “allowed” to run a terminal just as limited as the one you threw a hammer at in 1984.
Forget it.
Linux here I come.
I bought SoftRaid Pro the other day and did a raid five of my 4 3T drives works great but pricy for sure at $175.00.
I’m not currently using the iCloud.
The new 27” 5K-resolution iMac with a 4 GHz processor calls out to me. As a programmer I’m not sure what I would do with nearly 20M pixels, but if I were into a photography, I’d already have one on order, even though they only announced them on Thursday.
It calls out to me as well, but my wallets calls are much louder....along with my better half. :^)
The OS is using less memory than before....around a Gb less.
Is that with Chrome open?
The interface is more iPad-like. Simpler UI right off the bat. Folders and directory trees are so 1990s, and who wants that? You can still dig down to get to that awful crap if you think you need to, but you won’t. Mavericks is still Mac-flavored in feel and isn’t a massive change, just a measure of uniformity between all Apple OS’es.
Best functioning OS and UI out there right now, especially in continuity between OSX and iOS devices.
Microsoft Windows 11.2.1b Service Pack 3 will finally look like Mavericks sometime around Fall 2018, as long as you purchase the ‘Home Professional Extreme’ version (or higher) and not the ‘Ultimate Standard Basic’ version that Microsoft gives away free to Africa and India pre-installed on every ‘ZunePad PenTouch RT Plus+’.
lol
Perhaps this review of OS X.10 Yosemite might explain a bit.
Tallisker, with all due respect, that is a bunch of bull pucky. The new OS on the Mac is nothing at all like an iPhone. And the apps are NOT on the cloud. Where in hell did you get that idea? Do you pay any attention at ALL to the fact that even Apple cannot access your data? Only you have the key that gives you access? Apple does NOT sell data to marketers, that is Google and people like them. Apple has provided YOU complete control over your data.
I think you are spouting FUD.
I was sitting in a coworker’s office last week and he witnessed me answer an incoming telephone call with my iPad Air that came in on my iPhone 6+ that was sitting on my desk a down the hall.
“How did you do that?” he demanded.
I said “If your iPhone’s on the same WiFi with your iPad or MacBook Pro, FaceTime will route the incoming call to whichever one you’re using. You can do video too...”
He seethed with jealousy for an hour searching the web for a solution to make his Galaxy pad and Android phone and Win7 box do the same thing. *Seethed*.
Wait till the iWatch comes out in a few months.
That's because your not as playful. You're more serious. And you probably drink Dos Equis.
Much worse.
I don't drink at all.
But I do live two blocks away from a legal marijuana store.
