U.S.S. Compassion - Going Big to Solve the Ebola problem IN PLACE...

Posted on 10/18/2014 5:52:33 AM PDT by ICCtheWay

Here is my plan for treating the Ebola patients IN PLACE IN THEIR REGION - NOT IN AMERICA - costly yes, but it would be effective, It keeps Ebola patients out of America, It creates a Very Positive Image for America and Americans and the Western World, It has a good chance of working, It would be done in the American style of yesteryear - Going Big and taking care of the problem.

You can laugh - you can joke - you can make snide remarks... But my plan would GUT any back door obama treachery that obama has in mind. If my plan is crazy - then what is your plan - do nothing? Just sit back and let events overtake us?

I was just getting to the root issue, if you have ever weeded a garden, perhaps you might understand.

Fugeddaboutit.... Isolate the centers of Ebola and let them burn out. That is the only sane thing to do.

Expose more and more of our people to this disease? What are you going to do about the oceans of contaminated waste at sea?

Please call congress and tell them that we must be deadly serious about containing Ebola by strict quarantine within the United States and from infected nations. This is our right and our duty and it is THEIR duty to protect US.

Capitol switchboard is 202-224-3121 or Google your congressman or senator and get his contact information and call him / her office directly. You can also call or go to their local offices.

I believe decisive response is urgent because you can’t put this Ebola genie back in the bottle once it gets out. It is a fire, it consumes all the fuel it can get and the fuel is people. The only way to stop a fire is to block it from the fuel or cool it with water. A vaccine or medicine to treat Ebola would be the water and we don’t have reliable, enough or any.

Every possible measure must be taken to stop the spread before draconian measures are imposed. What is being done now is sloppy. We are walking a dangerous road. The threat is blossoming by the day if not hour. Almost every hour there is some new Ebola development and none of them are good. This is a serious and potentially deadly event. Unchecked it could destroy or weaken the United States and facilitate our destruction by others. It has that potential for every country and that is why so many are responding with such strict quarantines. These consequences, no matter how small the probabilities, demand a full effort and significant response.

Ebola is being spread here in the United States right now. First Texas, then Ohio then? Terror is an excellent weapon. It disrupts, confuses, paralyzes and destroys a society. Many others and we on FR have speculated that terrorists may spread Ebola. How do you that remember 9/11 feel right now compared to what you felt then? Do you want to gather your loved ones near you to protect them? I do. Even more than I did on September 11, 2001! Isn’t this passive response by this administration accomplishing the very same things a terrorist would want?
When something is being done that makes as little sense as what Obama is doing there has to be some other reason. I leave it to you dear reader to draw your own conclusions as to the reasons.
What is happening now is insane. It makes no sense at all. For example the head of CDC says: “Stopping travel from Africa won’t do any good because you have to get people into Africa to fight Ebola.” “You can’t get Ebola from an infected person on a bus but an infected person should never be on a bus because he can infect others.” “Blocking travel from infected countries would damage their fragile economies.” What about ours? What about our safety? What about resources we have paid for that should be protecting us?

Even the most despotic dictatorship in Africa has acted to protect his nation by strict quarantine and stopping travel from infected countries. Even CDC, the UN and WHO advocate and credit strict quarantine for nipping the spread of Ebola in the bud at the source in places like Senegal and Nigeria where both have had faster and more successful outbreak controls than we have had here. 35 countries have stopped travel of people from infected West African countries. It is so obvious even a child could understand it so why is it OK for people from infected countries to travel here?
I will post this message and keep posting it until someone stops me.

It cannot be done via private enterprise -I think that would be the only way it could/would happen.

so you just wait for obama’s solution that will adversely affect you ... is that it?

I wait for the zer0 to get out of office ASAP- be it impeached and jailed for Treason, Resign (never happen), drop dead for any reason (but then we are stuck with "plugs"), Term expires.

I have no use for zer0, never have and never will.

Has a lot to do with the notion that we as a Nation are broke. We do not have the Ebola containment gear we need in our own hospitals, none the less the gear to outfit the troops heading there.

Bad situation, socialism always fails to accomplish what needs to be done.

And what does that have to do with my proposal?

... How many years have you been a member of FR? And did you attend the massive turn out in D.C. on 09/12/09 with FR where about one million Conservatives turned out to protest against obama?

I did and have photos... but no need to have a profile unless you want to try to impress someone with your non achievements.

What you say is good but it is not containing the Ebola Epidemic in Africa and keeping it there

All the more reason we need to keep the huge numbers of Ebola infected in Africa. Treated there not coming here to infect Americans

You’ll be waiting a long time for all that... meanwhile Ebola is at our doorstep - at our airports and not being stopped in Africa

Not one of you who responded really read the proposal... just normal FR ... pot shots from Keyboard Commandos ...

Most of your understanding of the real situation with Ebola is near zero... Just carp about obama and fight your war with keystrokes

For one thing using a Carrier as a hospital ship would mean using Hanger deck and Flight deck as a place for the contained units. You would be lucky to get needed containment berths for 400 much less 4000 patients. Air Conditioning is also a biggie. And they use chill water units. So is desalinating enough potable water for the extra sanitation. On a ship water for steam takes priority over everything else and food prep is second. Showers is on down the list.

The wiring issues alone would be a total logistical nightmare because Water Tight Integrity must still be maintained. Using an active duty CVN or re-purposing one is a loss we can not afford and we need all our carriers. GW should be refuled on schedule.

There seems to be this line of thinking this is the military's problem. Plumbing on a CVN is not like you think it is either. The waste has to go somewhere.

Above all else this crisis will pass long before any combat ship could be modified for such a undertaking. It would likely be quicker to build a new ship. The old carriers? Nope. Two plus years needed to get one up and going and they are worn out anyway. Again you can build a conventional carrier in about that time frame in a pinch.

And Once Again this should not be a military mission to start with.

Because the GW would not be in a combat role the electrical power generation of the GW is enough to provide A/C to anything I suggest as the Air Con units would be attached to each IICU not an extension of water chilling. Electrical cabling can be handled it is a logistical feat not a technological hurdle ... and as you know - the flight deck is 4.5 acres - only used for helicopter landing and take off under my plan ... I have meticulously calculated that using prefabricated IICUs .. doubled decked - on the Flight Deck and in the huge Hanger areas below decks - divided into three sections will house over 4000 such IICUs I have computed square footage and cubic footage.

Congress has shown no signs of putting up 5 BILLION dollars to Refuel the GW versus putting the money into the new carriers coming on line... Google and take a read.

Under the flag of a Hospital Ship other Western Nations could be asked to help foot the bill when refueling time came — not to mention asking Saudi Arabia to help pay.

All combat equipment would be removed... including all aircraft except helicopters. Crew would be between 500 to 1000 ... not 4500 to 6000. Steam used for catapult would not be needed as the GW becoming the U.S.S Compassion would be non combat.

Water and Sanitation? I spelled out that the crew would become a skeleton crew enhanced by personnel from other Western countries .. the demand for water and sanitation would be greatly reduced and available for use by medical personal.

On the extra space on the Flight Deck is room for conventional high kilowatt generators and state of the art desalination systems if needed.

It would not be a military mission - it would be a military supported mission on a ship totally transformed for a non military mission including no requirement for supporting any aspect of aircraft landing and take off except for helicopters ... The GW would become the U.S.S, Compassion - a totally non combat ship protected by tender ships and security ships supplied by NATO... YES it is a Grandiose Plan — but our Nation sits on its thumb wondering what to do ... I say - GO BIG and Get it done...

There is no treatment right now which is just my point. Cooping up a bunch of sick people, 70% of them who are going to die, at our expense on a valuable warship does not make much sense to me.

Containing the disease where it breaks out and keeping it there to let it burn out makes sense. We can’t take on the whole world or save it all. That dilutes our own ability to survive. If we are dead what good are we to anyone? Are Liberians going to lead the world to conquer disease?

Read my home page :>} There's a few things I know about carriers especially the A/C units :>}. They are the single largest electrical consumer on a carrier. There are about nine or ten units with a total of about 2000 Tons cooling capacity. To start one up takes anywhere from 1200-2000 amps at 460 volts start up and about 180-300 amps run current.

But you have many other things which must operate combat or no. Fire Pumps, in GW case all associated Reactor pumps and equipment, The aircraft elevators likely the second largest consumer, electronics which would still be needed etc.

The design of the ships have some room for breakdowns built in. For example we lost an entire boiler room and switchboard in 1979 due to a DFT line rupture into #5 switchboard. It melted it and we were down two chillers and a fourth of our steam capacity.

Now for some more to what you are saying. The modifications to even bring the needed power for the would compromise Water Tight Integrity not to mention cause a major rewiring of the ship itself. ANY MODIFICATION must involve engineers going back and calculating the weights etc of modification, it's effect on other equipment. It is a long drawn out process.

Next the double deck stacking. Really? Ever been through a major storm on a carrier? Carriers are top heavy to start with and things like plane spotting on flight deck and hanger deck are down with ships list in mind.

Congress is an ASS. We need all the ships we can get. We are below a WW1 level of sea power as it is. The job of the United States Navy is National Defense. You are talking about Billons of dollars in modifications in operational cost for something that should be done on land by civilian relief agencies. The carrier modification plan is not practical, is not cost effective, can not be accomplished in less than a year or two modifications, {It takes cutting down to the 6th deck to reach the switchboards} and is not a function of the Navy.
