Newegg has had me wondering if they had a guy down the street waiting to deliver my goods once I hit the pay button.

Satire is dead.

Amazon has, in fact, filed a patent for predictive shipping: based on your prior orders and other data modeling factors, Amazon is seriously considering identifying items you’re likely to want and shipping them to your area (if not to your door!) in consideration of the odds that you’ll order it soon - so it can arrive with minimal delay.

I bought a few things from Amazon and expected delivery on Wednesday. The USPS left a note saying I had to pickup at the post office or schedule another delivery attempt that would happen 2 days later. Since the post office is open 10am to 4pm there was no way I can pickup until Saturday. Kinda defeats quick delivery and not having to drive any where.

If it was UPS they would have delivered. Amazon has a message board about being able to choose who delivers to your place. At this time Amazon chooses. I posted my frustration with the many other postings.

UPS delivers, Fedex sometimes and USPS does not unless they can stuff it in your mailbox.

That’s the beauty of our still somewhat free economy.
You can shop almost anywhere you want.

Amazon needs to slow down its shipping department and speed up its accounting department.

One day I received a book in the mail which I hadn't ordered - had never even heard of. That one and another were charged to my credit card. Amazon said they didn't know what I was talking about. I initiated a dispute through my credit card company (and cancelled the card) which it still in process. That was three months ago.

Two weeks before that I had placed an order to be shipped to one of my sons in Virginia. It was shipped and arrived in good order.

Two weeks ago I started getting emails about that order stating that my bank was pursuing a dispute over that order and was refusing to pay. They said they were refusing to process any orders and were demanding credit card info for payment.

After many phone calls to their cust service Help center got different stories from each one, a few pretty hostile. We never did come to a version of events on which we could agree.

As near as I can tell they did not attempt to bill the order for at least 10 days, by which time that credit card had been cancelled. They strenuously deny that they ever ship before billing. I'm offering to pay for those items, but they're being difficult and it still isn't settled. It's more complicated than it sounds, but I've gone on almost long enough.

I expect to lose some money - somewhere around $200 is in dispute. But in the long run it will be their loss. I live in a remote area of BC, and my children and families live in Virginia. I'll be making different arrangements for buying items not available locally as well as Christmas and birthday presents for my Virginia extended family.

I wrote off Amazon about a year ago after a billing debacle.

Amazon customer service truly sucks but I assure you it will not suffer losing neither you nor I as customers.

I don't expect to bankrupt them. But you can't assure me of anything other than death and taxes, nor can you have any idea how many people have had poor customer service or how far the dissatisfaction will spread. Much of their business is done through Amazon Marketplace (where my problem started).

By enabling thousands of small merchants (who are not Amazon employees) Amazon has practically sub-contracted the biggest retail function and with it a large part of the risk associated with unwanted merchandise! The word is getting out, and it's not a good situation for the company which touts itself as the world's most "customer-centric" retailer.

I can assure you of death, taxes, and lousy customer service at Amazon.

It's unrealistic to compare death, presumably happening to everyone, to "lousy customer service", just a part of the small part of the world who do business with Amazon. I'll grant you that as, say, "artistic or narrative license".

But you confuse customer service (you had "a billing debacle") with service. The problem I had was with unordered and unwanted merchandise, a problem which seems to be built in to their business model:
By enabling thousands of small merchants (who are not Amazon employees) Amazon has practically sub-contracted the biggest retail function and with it a large part of the risk associated with unwanted merchandise!

But if "lousy customer service" is your story, and you're sticking with it, go for it.

Okay okay let’s not mince words or split hairs or attribute artistic license. The bottom line was that I had a lousy customer service experience at Amazon and I will not place another order.
