Container Park Reaches Capacity With Addition Of Three New Businesses (Mall of storage containers)

Thinking of opening a business at Container Park? Well, you’re too late. Beginning this month, the downtown shopping and dining center is officially at capacity as Kappa Toys, Blowout Dollhouse and Perch round out the dining and retail offerings.

Choosing vendors for the Container Park was not just about filling space, but rather curating the right types of stores, Doug McPhail, retail operations director for the Downtown Project told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

“Having the perfect mix of businesses was more important to us than rushing to put something in that we didn’t feel was right,” McPhail said of the project. “We took our time to watch the businesses, see what we are and what we aren’t as well as what we want.”

At least one of the new tenants, Kappa Toys, was recruited by the Downtown Project to open a branch at the downtown Las Vegas mall. The company’s flagship store is in Austin, Texas.

Kappa Toys will fill 1100 square feet with puppets, games and kids costumes, among other toys. Trevor Yopp, who co-owns the store along with his wife, Lizzy Newsome, says at some point in the future Kappa Toys may develop its own original line of play items.

“I want to grow with the community and be something that kids grow up with and remember when they’re older,” Yopp told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

New tenant Blowout Dollhouse sounds like it could be a toy store, or perhaps a gentlemen’s club, but it is neither. It’s a women’s hair salon. Owner Latoya Holman also has a store at Tivoli Village. Services include a range of blowout services, including a Brazillian blowout, as well as up-dos, and cost anywhere from $25-60 dollars.

Finally, Perch joins the Container Park, offering international cuisine. The restaurant will be located on the second floor.

With the way the economy is going, we may see a lot more of these, back of vans, and garages.

A “Mall of storage containers”?

Around here, we call that a “Flea Market”.

Needs a Thunderdome. I like the idea of building with containers though.

Okay, Christchurch, NZ has the excuse of the earthquake — a lot of new retail space in the devastated area of downtown Christchurch is in converted shipping containers — what’s Las Vegas’s excuse?
