The major thrust of the books on Wests list namely that Roosevelts cabinet and much of the federal bureaucracy was filled with Communists, fellow travelers, dupes and useful idiots, and that at the very least this influenced an FDR agenda that proved heavily favorable towards Uncle Joe Stalin and the Soviet Union, enabling its expansion and increasing its sphere of influence well beyond its borders leads to a total paradigm shift when thinking about the World War II era. It bears noting that in American Betrayal, West herself seeks to draw a parallel between the modern-day whitewashing of Islamic supremacism, and influence of Islamic supremacists internal and external on Americas government, and that of the Communists and their sympathizers in Roosevelts day.
Below are Wests five book recommendations, which may challenge your perspective on and interpretation of the major events, figures and policies implemented during World War II. These titles provide context missing from not only Ken Burns documentary, but nearly all popular chronicles of this period of American history.

Why not post the list here, instead of diverting traffic to your blog?
What a sentimental, goo-fest that doc was! Unbearable - monotonous Peter Coyote, adolescent hero and heroine worship of FDR and his annoying wife - even heroine worship of that old bore, Alice Roosevelt. As with all Burns’ docs, the only interest was the photos and films. And his swooning regard for the evil Soviet Union! All undermined, of course, by the film footage of the sly, paranoid Stalin.
“The Roosevelt Myth” is one of the most concise writings on the real FDR and his administration around. It was written over a period of time during which the events occurred. I always wondered why my grandfather completely despised FDR as a struggling small businessman during the 30s. After reading Flynn’s book it all became apparent and even more apparent that the kenyan is following much the same path.
We watched the whole series - gagged us over the way Burns kept bringing up Republicans - esp. the way he classified Teddy Roosevelt as glorifying war and an imperialist. Burns’ hate for Conservatism and Republicans were readily apparent. Basically he beat the documentary to death; toward the end of each segment I couldn’t wait for it to end, turgid. - I did however enjoy seeing the old pictures and films.
Burns is no more than a commie leaning, fellow traveler, socialist jiving, jerk.
I tried watching.
Too much fawning and very little history.
Like him or not, FDR was an important president, so I was interested. Unfortunately, the Burns series was way too much hero worship. It was unwatchable.
The WHOLE Roosevelt family was dysfunctional-
They ALL believed they were the NEW Caesars-
and EVERYONE should bow down to them-
That is why they got along so well with old Joe stalin-
The roosevelts wanted the absolute power that Joe
wielded over his “serfs” - Teddy and Franklin had
that pesky congress- and for a time- Supreme court-
that tried to hold them in-check.
And this from Wikpedia:
“Burns is a longtime supporter of the Democratic Party, with almost $40,000 in political donations.[11] In 2008, the Democratic National Committee chose Burns to produce the introductory video for Senator Edward Kennedy’s August 2008 speech to the Democratic National Convention, a video described by Politico as a “Burns-crafted tribute casting him [Kennedy] as the modern Ulysses bringing his party home to port.”[12][13] In August 2009, Kennedy died, and Burns produced a short eulogy video at his funeral. In endorsing Barack Obama for the U.S. presidency in December 2007, Burns compared Obama to Abraham Lincoln.[14] He said he had planned to be a regular contributor to Countdown with Keith Olbermann on Current TV.[15]”
Thank you for that link.
Ditto.
Yes and No. Burns was judging him with today’s standards.
My wife and I tried to watch “The Roosevelts, but by the third episode our family room had so flooded with drooling Roosevelt worship that we had to turn-off the TV and call the “Like It Never Even Happened” people to clean up.
You’re welcome but DonW provided the link, I just gave the review.
Leon Czolgosz has a lot to answer for. Him, and McKinley’s incompetent doctor (McKinley’s life could have been saved). Otherwise that “damned cowboy” might never have become President.
I agree. It seriously freaked me out a bit. People pretty much worshipped FDR, and then his wife to some extent. When you don’t have God filling that hole, you get hero worship. It’s how these cults of personality exist, and how democrats get elected.
Obviously you are gay and seeking to spread gay propaganda.
Thank you DonW, for that informative link. Have read most of the 5 books listed in the OP but was not aware of the Myth.
