Doctoral Degree: Social Justice Education Concentration
Social Justice Education is an interdisciplinary concentration of study with a focus on social diversity and social justice as they apply to formal and non-formal educational systems. It uses and generates research and theory to understand the sociocultural and historical contexts and dynamics of specific manifestations of oppression (e.g., ableism, classism, heterosexism, racism, religious oppression, transgender oppression and sexism) in social systems. It brings together faculty and students with interests in issues of social diversity and social oppression, inclusion, equity, social justice, critical theories, critical pedagogies, dialogues across differences, individual and collective empowerment, liberatory consciousness and practice, and research for social justice.
The goal of the SJE doctoral concentration is to prepare scholars and educational leaders that can promote social diversity and justice in educational settings through the development of theoretical and practical knowledge, empirical research, and the use of effective social justice education practices. The concentration engages candidates in the study, interrogation and further theorizing of social justice issues and social justice education practices for the purpose of developing knowledge capable of fostering educational environments that are socially just, diverse, inclusive, equitable, and accessible to all members within given communities and contexts. Candidates are experienced educational professionals classroom teachers, school counselors, staff development professional, education administrators, student affairs programmers, special educators, youth workers, or college residential educators who work closely with a faculty guidance committee to plan a course of study which balances academic and professional experiences relevant to successfully completing doctoral work. Graduates are employed in various roles including faculty and leadership and administration roles in a variety of educational settings including private and public schools, non-governmental organizations, university and college settings.

Yes.
What a bunch of cr*p.
But, it’s really top quality cr*p.
So true. And is also will disappear in a short time. Take poverty. Everybody who makes under $20,000 is in poverty. When everyone makes $20,000 it will be everyone who makes less than $30,000. It never stops.
In many countries $20,000 would be pretty darn well off
Other than being able to teach in some university’s social justice program, what other possible use is this degree? We could be using these academic resources to turn out engineers and cancer researchers instead of these useless idiots.
Similar useless degrees are also rampant at the undergraduate level. The daughter of a good friend graduated from a well known private school with a degree in Environmental and Peace Studies. She ended up working as a barrista at a local coffee place until she could save enough to get another degree that allowed her to get a career job.
Doctorate in Temporal Studies... please step into Blue Box University
How does “social justice” differ from justice-justice? Doesn’t regular justice cover person to person (i.e. “social”) interaction? So why the extra justice? F.A. Hayek said “social” was one of those “weasel words,” which suck whatever they’re next to of their inner meaning while leaving their facade untouched.
In other words, “social justice” is meaningless.
Ever notice how they like to add “education” on to the end of things that aren’t actuap disciplines? You never see anyone get a degree in “Math Education” or “History Education.” You’d think that’d be a tipoff.
There is “bank” potential with this degree, however -
it’s basically a license for extortion.
That was my take, too, but you said it better than I could.
THIS IS WHAT LIBERALS ACTUALLY BELIEVE.
See #31.
PhD, Social Justice = Extortion License
That Sir, is an insult to alchemy and to alchemists.
BUMP
Every day it becomes more and more clear that college has become a place where people learn to be more ignorant and more stupid.
Absolutely -- at universities, and also for positions within government agencies and in the presidential or gubernatorial administrations of Democrat office holders.
I'm hep.
Yes, at the Velvet Jones School of Technology.
