Ted Cruz Is No Hero For Insulting A Room Of Persecuted Christians
The Federalist ^ | 09/11/2014 | Mollie Hemingway

Posted on 09/11/2014 12:26:24 PM PDT by Pyro7480

...We learn of a Maronite Christian seeking a liaison with Hezbollah and it sounds horrifically bad until you realize the purpose is to work together to fight ISIS, for instance. Her descriptive language for the various Christian leaders...suggests a lack of intimacy with the topic....

...When Cruz was supposed to give the keynote address and discuss the deadly serious topic of persecution of Christians, he instead insulted a largely immigrant and foreign crowd as a group that didn’t understand their own political situation and stomped out of the room after calling them a bunch of haters....

The fact is, as Mark Tooley explains in a very thoughtful and balanced piece, that Christians who are persecuted have political views that may not align with U.S. interests. Who knew? For many of us, our concern about genocide of Christians isn’t limited to those who are perfectly aligned with our views. Someone will have to explain to me how positioning Cruz and the Free Beacon this way — as the go-to group for missing the point on Christian persecution — is a good thing for either of them or the military solutions they seek....

While the case absolutely can and should be made that support for Israel does help the fight against Christian persecution, it would be naive and wrong for Christians to think that the United States has their interests at heart globally (or domestically, it seems!). And the United States has no governmental obligation to help out the Christians who are dying in the Middle East, although it would be wonderful if we could stop doing things that lead so quickly to their persecution. But I do wonder if some hawks misunderstand or underestimate American Christian sentiment about our brothers and sisters in Christ at their peril.

The only problem is, all men aren’t created equal.

The Declaration isn’t inerrant — to me, anyway. I already have a religion.

You, like many here lately, need to find a new home more aligned to your liberal ideas.

You may have missed the news but Israel has been dodging thousands of rockets that are being sent daily and is fighting for their lives and freedom.

And at a pro-Israel event focusing on the attacks on Israel, what reception would have been given a politician who focused his speech on the plight of Christians? Right now, it's the Christians getting killed by the hundreds and thousands.

Cruz was supposed to give the keynote address

They invited him to speak and he should have spoken.

If he hasn't made his point after speaking then that is the time to reveal disagreement. At that point, you can address all positions in a sane and civil manner.

This incident just adds more confusion regarding the merit of The Defense of Christian's agenda. An opportunity to share their agenda has been lost.

You really are a fool. Since this world is passing away, regardless of “world without end” in Ephesian 3:21, maybe you should go first. Take your empty head with you.

“If Cruz expects Christians in the ME to see things the way we Americans do, then he’s not up to being POTUS.”

So in other words, if Cruz chooses to stand on principle for his beliefs rather than pander to a particular interest group, he is not presidential material? That is definitely the Washington establishment mindset, but out here in grassroots America, we appreciate a Reaganesque leader that stands up for what he believes in.

I have to ask, about Israel. Have they done anything to help save the Christians, Yazitis, and other minorities from ISIS?

The Israelis are busy fighting their own war with Hamas.

They invited him to speak and he should have spoken.

So, do pray tell how he was supposed to speak as the hecklers increased the intensity and frequency of the heckling?

This incident just adds more confusion regarding the merit of The Defense of Christian's agenda. An opportunity to share their agenda has been lost.

B.S.

He very effectively shared his agenda with his simple statements of fact.

I already have a religion.

Quite right. What you have is a religion.

What you need is Christ.

I'd bet that Israel would have offered help if there were any possibility it could have been given without causing more problems than it solved.

Israel tried to send a rescue team to Iran after a major earthquake a few years back, and that offer was rejected in no uncertain terms.

“Many Middle Eastern Christians have been indoctrinated with hatred toward Jews...”

Heck - many American Christians too. Many churches have joined in movements to stop investing in Israeli companies, etc.

Maronites are not united in their animosity towards Israel. Prior to the PLO’s expulsion from Jordan, a lot of them loved Israel.

Once the Palestinians flooded their country, however, a lot of Maronites grew bitter about Israel not wanting to taking them back and blamed the Civil War on them.

Even still, some Maronites maintain warm feelings towards Israel, others just chose to make a deal with the devil.

I want to see the quote where he insulted them BEFORE they heckled him

Cruz said: "I’m saddened to see that some here, not everyone, are so consumed with hate,” at the beginning of the video

Not a good way to begin your speech by accusing some in the audience of being consumed with hate.

His crew, and the candidate, need to be ready for an audience like this, which might not have been overtly hostile to Israel in mass (sic), but consisted of an ordinarily almost alien variety of Christians presently more concerned about their survival than they are that of the Israelis.

So why the hell would these "Christians" hate Israel, which has done no harm to them whatsoever? Israel is far and away the most tolerant country in the region when it comes to religion.

Cruz is right. If these "Christians" will not stand with Israel and insist upon keeping up their hatred of Jews, then they can go to hell.

Thanks for posting that article. When I came to Free Republic I was impressed with the fact that the posters seemed level headed, practical, seriously seeking truth, generally speaking truth when they had facts backing it up and then I assumed that the posters were most probably living the truth. I thought that for the most part the membership/readership were a very reality based population and that I have always thought to be of utmost importance as we live our lives.

Over the past few years I find more people posting on Free Republic with opinions, that they seem to place on a par with facts. This leads us away from truth and into a world that doesn't exist but in the minds of folks who have kind of lost their bearings. There is no more core or foundation for many. This is dangerous.

I just pray everyone will step back and ask God to give them the mind or heart of those they hate and then try to understand why they might feel that way. It doesn't take long to figure it out.

Don’t forget the amazing help the Israelis sent to Haiti during the earthquake. And medical service to the inbred tribes in the desert.

Ah, the "Christianity is not a religion, but a relationship" twaddle rears its head again....
