Ted Cruz Is No Hero For Insulting A Room Of Persecuted Christians

...We learn of a Maronite Christian seeking a liaison with Hezbollah and it sounds horrifically bad until you realize the purpose is to work together to fight ISIS, for instance. Her descriptive language for the various Christian leaders...suggests a lack of intimacy with the topic....

...When Cruz was supposed to give the keynote address and discuss the deadly serious topic of persecution of Christians, he instead insulted a largely immigrant and foreign crowd as a group that didn’t understand their own political situation and stomped out of the room after calling them a bunch of haters....

The fact is, as Mark Tooley explains in a very thoughtful and balanced piece, that Christians who are persecuted have political views that may not align with U.S. interests. Who knew? For many of us, our concern about genocide of Christians isn’t limited to those who are perfectly aligned with our views. Someone will have to explain to me how positioning Cruz and the Free Beacon this way — as the go-to group for missing the point on Christian persecution — is a good thing for either of them or the military solutions they seek....

While the case absolutely can and should be made that support for Israel does help the fight against Christian persecution, it would be naive and wrong for Christians to think that the United States has their interests at heart globally (or domestically, it seems!). And the United States has no governmental obligation to help out the Christians who are dying in the Middle East, although it would be wonderful if we could stop doing things that lead so quickly to their persecution. But I do wonder if some hawks misunderstand or underestimate American Christian sentiment about our brothers and sisters in Christ at their peril.

I like to doubt he will make a similar mistake again.

Neither Senator Cruz, or his "crew", made a mistake in either going to this event or how Senator Cruz handled the hecklers.

In fact, I would argue that his response and actions were the absolute best way to handle this situation as it showed perfect poise, and strength of character.

I have to ask, about Israel. Have they done anything to help save the Christians, Yazitis, and other minorities from ISIS?

Really? What was Israel supposed to do for the last couple of months while it was suffering from 3,500 rockets launched at it, and while trying to run a sizeable military operation to stop even more missiles from killing its civilians?

Maybe you should ask what Israel has done in the past - like helping the Lebanese Christians against Hezbollah and Syria, helping the Kurds with arms when they were being massacred by Saddam Hussein in 1991 (when the U.S. had 500,000 troops there with their thumbs up their collective arse, watching the massacre), and treating injured and sick Palestinians for decades, even those who hate their guts and try to kill them. THAT is what Israel has done.

Cruz is wrong. The USA is a secular entity that increasingly positions itself contrary to Christian interests. Christians need to understand that they have a religion and it isn’t the Pledge of Allegiance.

Oh, Cruz and his staff knew full well who the audience was. But being the Leader and Statesman that he is, he instead of running away, chose to attempt to educate and stand on principle.


But he did run away. And perhaps he had no real choice.

Cruz raised a lightening rod. He shouldn’t be surprised he caught a bolt. If Cruz expects Christians in the ME to see things the way we Americans do, then he’s not up to being POTUS.

Agreed. This is almost, but not quite, like the incident in the 1980 New Hampshire debate when Reagan said, "This is my microphone, I paid for it and I'm going to speak!" Cruz is positioning himself VERY well as Reagan 2.0, a tough, no-nonsense, unabashed patriot who is not only not afraid to confront ideological enemies, but who relishes the prospect. We haven't seen his like since Reagan, and possibly even back to T.R. (though he clearly wasn't conservative like Reagan or Cruz, but that man had 20-pound gonads and didn't miss an opportunity to use them). Ted Cruz for President in 2016. Progressivism and Islamism delenda est!

That was the democrat plan when they changed the immigration laws to overcome the traditional American voters, with voters with no interest in maintaining America.

These assclowns booed him when he said that the United States would stand with Israel. How that constitutes an insult is beyond me, but I would have done exactly the same thing Cruz did. Only I would have mooned them before I walked out.

Israelis protect ALL nationalities living within their borders, including Palestinians who they serve in their hospitals without regard to their nationality and, I might add, without regard to how they might have gotten themselves injured within Israels’ borders. Hint, hint.

If you are asking whether Israelis venture outside their borders (talking about anywhere other than Gaza, and that of course brings up additional considerations and questions) to conduct what would be, to them, foreign policy exercises for the purpose of protecting various minorities probably not. I for one wouldn’t expect them to do so. Israel *did* expend considerable effort to absorb Ethiopian Jews.

I am not sure whether this is something one would want Israelis to do. They don’t claim to be guardians of anything but their own “innards” and they have their hands full doing so. I believe Israel’s policy, when Muslims are fighting other Muslims, is to allow them to do so, and I support that.

That ain't secular. Without God, no United States.

No he did not.

He left because there was a loud, local, very small minority of members in the audience who were making it impossible for him to proceed.

Cruz raised a lightening rod. He shouldn’t be surprised he caught a bolt.

I doubt he was either surprised or concerned about the reaction. He displayed real leadership in how he handled the situation.

He did not compromise with the losers in the audience and stood his ground on his principles, the correct principles.

If Cruz expects Christians in the ME to see things the way we Americans do, then he’s not up to being POTUS.

Quit substituting your expectations for Cruz's.

It is exactly because he fearlessly stuck to the truth, in the face of heckling, that shows he is eminently qualified to be POTUS.

Many Middle Eastern Christians have been indoctrinated with hatred toward Jews, just like the Mooslims have been, Miss M, The daily missiles fired at Israel are of no interest to them. They really do not belong here if they have this attitude toward the most humane nation in the ME. They are fellow Christians of whom I am ashamed. You know that fellow Jesus, He was a JEW, Folks.

Those who practice the ancient faith handed down from the apostles aren’t real Christians, and therefore “our” national interest needn’t take notice of their welfare. Understand this and you understand much of American foreign policy for the past 100 years.

Godless in constitution and godless in practice.
