Oh, Cruz and his staff knew full well who the audience was. But being the Leader and Statesman that he is, he instead of running away, chose to attempt to educate and stand on principle.
But he did run away. And perhaps he had no real choice.
Cruz raised a lightening rod. He shouldn’t be surprised he caught a bolt. If Cruz expects Christians in the ME to see things the way we Americans do, then he’s not up to being POTUS.

No he did not.
He left because there was a loud, local, very small minority of members in the audience who were making it impossible for him to proceed.
Cruz raised a lightening rod. He shouldnt be surprised he caught a bolt.
I doubt he was either surprised or concerned about the reaction. He displayed real leadership in how he handled the situation.
He did not compromise with the losers in the audience and stood his ground on his principles, the correct principles.
If Cruz expects Christians in the ME to see things the way we Americans do, then hes not up to being POTUS.
Quit substituting your expectations for Cruz's.
It is exactly because he fearlessly stuck to the truth, in the face of heckling, that shows he is eminently qualified to be POTUS.

“If Cruz expects Christians in the ME to see things the way we Americans do, then hes not up to being POTUS.”
So in other words, if Cruz chooses to stand on principle for his beliefs rather than pander to a particular interest group, he is not presidential material? That is definitely the Washington establishment mindset, but out here in grassroots America, we appreciate a Reaganesque leader that stands up for what he believes in.
