Ted Cruz Is No Hero For Insulting A Room Of Persecuted Christians
The Federalist ^ | 09/11/2014 | Mollie Hemingway

Posted on 09/11/2014 12:26:24 PM PDT by Pyro7480

...We learn of a Maronite Christian seeking a liaison with Hezbollah and it sounds horrifically bad until you realize the purpose is to work together to fight ISIS, for instance. Her descriptive language for the various Christian leaders...suggests a lack of intimacy with the topic....

...When Cruz was supposed to give the keynote address and discuss the deadly serious topic of persecution of Christians, he instead insulted a largely immigrant and foreign crowd as a group that didn’t understand their own political situation and stomped out of the room after calling them a bunch of haters....

The fact is, as Mark Tooley explains in a very thoughtful and balanced piece, that Christians who are persecuted have political views that may not align with U.S. interests. Who knew? For many of us, our concern about genocide of Christians isn’t limited to those who are perfectly aligned with our views. Someone will have to explain to me how positioning Cruz and the Free Beacon this way — as the go-to group for missing the point on Christian persecution — is a good thing for either of them or the military solutions they seek....

While the case absolutely can and should be made that support for Israel does help the fight against Christian persecution, it would be naive and wrong for Christians to think that the United States has their interests at heart globally (or domestically, it seems!). And the United States has no governmental obligation to help out the Christians who are dying in the Middle East, although it would be wonderful if we could stop doing things that lead so quickly to their persecution. But I do wonder if some hawks misunderstand or underestimate American Christian sentiment about our brothers and sisters in Christ at their peril.

Not a good way to begin your speech by accusing some in the audience of being consumed with hate.

Actually, his honesty and integrity in telling the truth was quite refreshing!

Cruz did the right thing for the right reasons. He’s a true leader.

See post 93. It has to do a lot with the Palestinian refugee problem that Lebanon has.

I have to ask, about Israel. Have they done anything to help save the Christians, Yazitis, and other minorities from ISIS?

Not really, but I think they can be forgiven for that, because they're fighting for their very survival from the dangers of all those surrounding them. Most directly, they're fighting against Hamas, which lobs ordnance into the country on a daily basis.

Yes it was. Calling it as he saw and heard it. I could only imagine some of the speeches before his.

If these “Christians” will not stand with the Jews, then we should not stand with them.

We were founded as a Christian country. We give billions to Israel. Our country is doing nothing for the Christians. Something is wrong with this picture.

Maybe it all boils down to money. Maybe if the Christians were buying our planes and weapons our country would treat them better.

A question that I often see and find the answers very interesting is:What is a Jew?

The answer may surprise you but is important to know.

Cruz was right.

Israel is a friend....anything Islamic is the enemy.

Those who can’t make that distinction are denying reality.

In the ME, “Chrislam” hates Jews & Israel.

And they likely are not really Christians...Just carryin' the name...

The phrase that ignited the disagreement is particularly telling: “Christians have no greater ally than Israel.”

These poor people are likely not taught that Jesus was/is a Jew...I have read that these 'Christians' have not given up Izlam but intertwined some things from the bible into their own religion

If they have not been taught by their leaders that Israel of the ME is the only friend they have over there, they have false teachers...And any American that fails to teach the same thing of Israel is a false teacher/liar...

Why in the world would they invite Ted Cruz to speak at their useless event???

“Iraq. They do have the assets. Even if it was just food drops etc.”

Seriously ... You want Israel to fly into Iraq and an area controlled by IS?

They certainly have...Those groups are protected in Israel just as much as Israelis are protected...

You really mean “slanted” view, right?

This naïve organization, per a spokesman, was infiltrated by muslim sympathizers to disrupt and give a bad impression of ME Christians.

Cruz handled the situation very well.

This is full-on pile of crap and just a chance at taking a swipe at Ted Cruz.

“And at a pro-Israel event focusing on the attacks on Israel, what reception would have been given a politician who focused his speech on the plight of Christians?”

I can guarantee that people would have been polite and respectful and listened. Probably they’d expect some kind of conclusion linking the persecution of Christians with the persecution of Jews, but I cannot imagine a crowd of Jewish people booing an invited speaker for talking about other people. Oh, by the way, I am quite sure that Cruz only intended the one line about Israel, and would have moved on to the persecution of Christians for the remainder of his speech - had he been allowed to proceed.

I like to doubt he will make a similar mistake again.

There wasn't any mistake made...I hope Cruz does exactly the same thing next time...

Cruz said: "I’m saddened to see that some here, not everyone, are so consumed with hate,” at the beginning of the video

Not a good way to begin your speech by accusing some in the audience of being consumed with hate.

Uh, why would he say that? Obviously because they started heckling him BEFORE that. His statement was a clear reaction to their heckling, which started when he said that Christians should stand by Israel. The last round of heckling was the crowd reacting to Cruz' criticism of them - at which point he left, realizing that he'd never be able to speak because so many in the audience were uncivilized and unmannered.

Don’t forget the amazing help the Israelis sent to Haiti during the earthquake. And medical service to the inbred tribes in the desert.

I haven't. Nor did I forget them helping the Vietnamese boat people by taking many in as permanent settlers - when most of the world was trying to kill them by not letting them land anywhere. Truly, Israel has been a light unto the nations throughout its history (and despite its many imperfections)...but I was trying to focus on things that were more in the immediate area so that those who expected Israel to fight ISIS and save Christians understood that Israel has helped plenty of them. Thanks for your reply, though.

Don’t think for a minute my post was meant to upstage your comment. I just wanted other people to remember all the good they’ve done over the years. Particularly in their medical help! Take care.
