CDC Addresses Allegations on Vaccine-Autism Link Omission

CDC Senior Scientist William Thompson has alleged that a 2004 study he co-authored omitted key data that would have revealed a link between autism and a commonly-required childhood vaccine, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella).

“I regret that my coauthors and I omitted statistically significant information in our 2004 article published in the journal Pediatrics. The omitted data suggested that African American males who received the MMR vaccine before age 36 months were at increased risk for autism,” said Thompson in a statement issued through his attorney Wednesday.

“Do you work in the pharmaceutical industry?”

Do you think you have to work in the pharmaceutical industry to know that vaccines are a good idea?

Are you truly that paranoid?

Here’s more
A coauthor of the questioned study is Dr. Frank DeStefano, Director of the CDC Immunization Safety Office. In a telephone interview last week, DeStefano defended the study and reiterated the commonly accepted position that there’s no “causal” link between vaccines and autism.

But he acknowledged the prospect that vaccines might rarely trigger autism.

“I guess, that, that is a possibility,” said DeStefano. “It’s hard to predict who those children might be, but certainly, individual cases can be studied to look at those possibilities.”

It is a significant admission from a leading health official at an agency that has worked for nearly 15 years to dispel the public of any notion of a tie between vaccines and autism. Vaccines are among the most heralded medical inventions of our time. Billions of people have been vaccinated worldwide, countless lives have been saved and debilitating injuries prevented. The possibility that vaccines may also partly be responsible for autism, in individual cases, is not something public health officials are typically eager to address.

In other words, there have been no studies, just “nope, it doesn’t happen”

“So do you?”

I have nothing to do with anything related to it.

You are classically paranoid. Vaccinate your kids next time you have a lucid moment.

Ah, but no actual research presented showing a causal link. Just someone “flapping his jaw”.

Ooops.

Don’t worry, nobody is out to sap or impurify your precious bodily fluids.

It’s a fair question - the fact that you can’t resist from personal attacks speaks of your issues, not mine.

I’ll remind you one more time that you have shown no proofs, no studies of what I asked for nothing that vaccinations are without side effects, possibly worse than the illnesses they are to supposed to protect against.

The willingness to use your own child as an experiment is definitely not “lucid” thinking.

“no studies of what I asked for nothing that vaccinations are without side effects”

Oh, you are now using the “perfect is the enemy of the good” argument. Nobody ever claimed that there were no side effects of vaccines - what was claimed by me is that side effects of vaccines are much lower than the side effects of the diseases which they prevent. These are trivial google searches that even you could perform.

” the fact that you can’t resist from personal attacks speaks of your issues, not mine.” To infer that you are not very bright, easily fooled and are an irresponsible parent are observations from information you freely provided. You actually seem proud of the fact that you do not vaccinate your kids.

These are fairly benign labels for someone whose blind stupidity will result in children dying if people are gullible enough to listen to you. I’m hoping to lessen the chance of someone listening to you by refuting each and every exaggeration you make about vaccines.

The 6-month MMR is the killer and culprit of all kinds of brain ailments.

Anyone who doubts it should read the side effects sheet for the shot before commenting. Pay close attention to the “death” and “reduced consciousness” warnings. Then realize that the percentages associated with these side effects are only the cases where it was proven in court that the shot was the cause, and proven against all efforts and actions by the drug maker’s defense team.

You exaggerate. Severe side effects are so infrequent that a causal relationship between vaccine and severe side effect cannot be established.

In fact a Finnish study referenced showed no deaths in 1.5M vaccinations. If you look at actually getting the measles you have a mortality rate of 2.2 per 1000.

2.2 out of 1000 is a lot more than 0 out of 1,500,000.

So why exaggerate? Do you actually want children to die of measles?

Were you around in the 30s and 40s?

I was.

These vaccines are miraculous.

Sorry, but they’re not. They damage babies, that’s no miracle.

Tell your ‘miraculous’ opinion to the parents of the dead 6-month old who died on the night of his MMR. It was their only child. I asked the nurse if the shot could have contributed to his death. Her response: “we’re not supposed to talk about that”. They know it. They don’t care.

There is no miracle in a Faustian bargain.

“Tell your ‘miraculous’ opinion to the parents of the dead 6-month old who died on the night of his MMR.”

Of course that’s tragic but the approximately 400 deaths per year caused by measles prior to the vaccine were also tragic.

You’re not refuting anything.

You’re diverting attention away from no proof of ANY of the studies I asked for - with your lame attempts at insulting me ;)

Just what I thought - blindly following what someone else tells you to do.

“no proof of ANY of the studies I asked for “

There are literally billions of examples. That’s not enough for you?

2.2 deaths per 1000 for measles, 0 deaths per 1.5M vaccinations for measles.

Yet you choose death?

As of March 1, 2012, there have been 898 claims filed in the federal Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP) for injuries and deaths following MMR vaccination, including 56 deaths and 842 serious injuries.

These parents would disagree with you.

From the CDC that we know downplays information they don’t want to deal with

Most children who get MMRV vaccine do not have any problems with it.
Mild Problems
Fever (about 1 child out of 5).
Mild rash (about 1 child out of 20).
Swelling of glands in the cheeks or neck (rare).
If these problems happen, it is usually within 5-12 days after the first dose. They happen less often after the second dose.
Moderate Problems
Seizure caused by fever (about 1 child in 1,250 who get MMRV), usually 5-12 days after the first dose. They happen less often when MMR and varicella vaccines are given at the same visit as separate shots (about 1 child in 2,500 who get these two vaccines), and rarely after a 2nd dose of MMRV.
Temporary low platelet count, which can cause a bleeding disorder (about 1 child out of 40,000).
Severe Problems (Very Rare)
Several severe problems have been reported following MMR vaccine, and might also happen after MMRV. These include severe allergic reactions (fewer than 4 per million), and problems such as:
Deafness.
Long-term seizures, coma, lowered consciousness.
Permanent brain damage.
Because these problems occur so rarely, we can’t be sure whether they are caused by the vaccine or not. (but we wouldn’t put the warning here if we were reasonbly sure there were issues)
