My parents neighbor had a Chrysler Imperial. It was black with suicide doors on the back. Not sure the year. He only drove it in the summer. He would jack it up and take the wheels off in the winter. Of course, it had white walls. It looked like a mafia staff car.

“The Economy Class cabin of the 747 in the 60’s is worth the price alone. “

Considering the 747 didn’t fly till 1970, it must have been some ticket!

Are you sure it wasn't a Lincoln Continental? They have a similar look to the Imperial, and were manufactured with suicide rear doors. I don't recall any Imperial models with suicide doors as an option. All the pictures I can find with four-door Imperials all show normal doors.

I know it was a Chrysler Imperial. Maybe I am confused about the suicide doors.

It looked similar to the car in the movie “Animal House”. Maybe that it where I remembered the suicide doors from.

It was 40 some years ago. Holy Crap!

How many seats are there across on a 747 now? At least, one more.

Yeah, I should've had some coffee before that post. I recall one of my uncles talking about Chrysler being involved in some of Packard's woes (bought a coachbuilder company that did some of Packard's work, I think), but ultimately Studebaker and Packard went down in flames together. Packard had a concept car design that cribbed a lot of the Imperial/Chrysler design cues:

The execution, though, looked more like some of the more exaggerated features pasted onto a Stude.

BTW, that's a great pic of Clint Eastwood in London.

“I don’t know how they managed to post a photo of a 1960 Imperial on a billboard in the fall of ‘56.”

That be fuzzy history.

The fins are the same size / shape, but the bumpers are different.

Thanks for posting the photos. They’re great to see!

Pete

You mean the competition that makes flying more common than taking a bus?
