My dog Died Today
N/A | Today | Me

Posted on 08/22/2014 7:28:40 PM PDT by occamrzr06

I had my Australian Shepard put down today. Her name was Sidney, as in the city in Australia. She was 15 Years 3 months.

She had had dementia for the last year or so. For the last year she hadn't been able to control her bowels. She could hold the pee, but number 2 just came when it was ready.

Today when I got home, she couldn't stand up. Her back legs just wouldn't work.

I took her outside and laid her in the nicest part of the grass. She looked peaceful as the wind blew her face.

On the way to the vet, my wife held her up so she could sniff the wind as we drove.

We are having her cremated and the place gives a nice teak box with the ashes, a nice poem, and a plaster of paris paw print. The vet asked what box I wanted. I didn't know they had different boxes, they didn't when her sister passed. They had the standard, or one with hearts. I picked the one with hearts, since my kids named her, the love dog.

She is now in heaven chasing bunnies with her sister (Somersby, also a city in Australia), who passed 3 years ago.

Your prayers are appreciated.

Lost “Muffy” 3 years ago, still not over it. Only thing that helped was an article in new puppies that said...just remember, the puppy is only visiting you for a while. Once I thought about Muffy’s visit, I started feeling better.

May God comfort you with knowing the separation is temporary. Sydney will look up one day and ace to meet you. We, too, have our Ziggy who is almost 15 and he is in his autumn. No one really knows how anyone else feels; but we have faced this pain twice this year so at least we understand.

My deepest sympathy. Our precious furbabies take a piece of our hearts with them. I will pray for your peace. Blessings.

Yes, it is hard to lose a loved one. Pets are family. Fritz was our fourth Rottweiler and we’ve had innumerable other dogs and cats over the years that have come into our lives and then are gone. I think having pets teaches us about compassion and how fleeting life on this earth really is. The best medicine is to get another dog or cat, not to necessarily replace the special one that is gone, but to keep that cycle of life going.

Just before our Fritz passed away, we happened by luck to get a new puppy from a relative who works at a rescue shelter. Even though Fritz is gone, we are well on our way to establishing another familial bond with our new dog, Corky. We live on a farm and he is our constant companion, following us everywhere. Pets are such a joy to have. Our lives would be incomplete without them.

You’re not “that guy” . You are the opposite of “that guy”.

So sorry for your loss.

With the exception of a few years time span, I've had dogs my entire life. They are truly God's gift to us, they're the ONE being He created and put on this earth that loves us unconditionally.

Anytime I've had to say good bye to one of my canine companions it was like having my heart ripped out and stomped on. Each one of them was unique and special in their own way and even as they years have passed I find I still miss them as much today as I did back then.

Take your time, mourn your loss and know there are plenty of us out here who have compassion and empathy for where you're at.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Our Elkie, Anjel, passed much the same way several years ago. Doggies never tell you when it’s time for them to go — they rely upon your love to let them. Prayers and may her memory be a comfort.

We never have to worry about getting a new dog. There is an invisible sign in our yard that says limp up this driveway to a life of luxury. :-)

Ive had 2 Golden Retrievers and now an Aussie for 7 years. She is the best dog ever. I will never get anything but an Aussie. Last night my wife and I were on the couch and our Aussie was getting rambunctious and I knew her toy was in our daughters bathroom. We said go get your toy! Its in daughters bathroom! She went and got it. Dang! It even surprised us she knew where it was. Very smart dogs.

Sorry for the OP’s dog passing. Get another Aussie.
