CNN Wolf Blitzer: Why Dont Cops Shoot to Wound? By Robert Farago on August 17, 2014
On Thursday, CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer asked guest [lawyer] Jeffrey Toobin why police werent instructed to shoot to injure, instead of kill,
talkingpointsmemo.com reports. Blitzers questions arose during a discussion on the unfurling conflict in Ferguson, Mo. over the fatal police shooting of unarmed teenager Michael Brown. They often shoot to kill, Blitzer said of police. Why do they have to shoot to kill? Why cant they shoot a warning shot in the air, scare someone off if they think theyre in danger. Why cant they shoot to, injure, shall we say? Why do they have to shoot to kill? [Click here to watch the clip] TTAG reader F reckons Blitzers ignorance . . .

Send the cops to Lone Ranger school. He was the best.
Dang, Wolf, you're wrong again!
Hey, I’m also really surprised that the cop didn’t calmly ask Mike Brown how old he was, just to make sure that the 6’4”, 292 pound guy who wasn’t listening to him, wasn’t just a young kid. After all, MB was only a sweet teen getting ready to go to college in a week. /sarc
+1
For what it is worth: It appears the police in America have better “rules of engagement” than our soldiers in Afghanistan.
I think if you had an adrenaline rush, it wouldn’t matter a hill of beans whether or not you have drugs in your system, especially if you were the size of MB. It’s how people can pull cars off of others who are trapped. So if they don’t find drugs in his system, his behavior can still be explained.
Of course, if he does have drugs in his system, it explains more easily.
We are in the hands of idiots.
Jesus, please stop infesting this world with stupid humans.
One of the first rules of handling a weapon is the know where the bullet is going and what is behind it.
Firing warning shots into the air, land somewhere. Perhaps in a baby carriage. Perhaps in a nursing home.
And if you KNOW the cops fire warning shots, it gives the perp time and opportunity to close the physical gap.
I do not know exactly what happened in Ferguson. But, it appears that the police officer fired until the danger he perceived to be coming at him was abated.
Yeah, aim for Center Mass. With the adrenaline pumping you are lucky to hit ANYTHING.
The fact that this cop put six bullets on target stunned me as remarkable. Remarkable as in, pretty damned good control.
Candy gram for Michael Brown!

I read this headline and I agreed with it. With respect to cops shooting to wound the rioters and looters in Ferguson... Why not? Go for it.
Then I realized Blitzoid was talking about shooting to wound Mike Brown. Which is a stupid idea.
Yes, the bullet pattern is superb, but it would be really in bad taste to award Officer Wilson a marksmanship medal.
There is a scene in Rustler’s Rhapsody that Tom Berenger goes out to practice “for the big showdown.”
He sets up several shooting targets which are hands, holding pistols. LOL!!
Thats funny.
I think back to the V Tech shooting. THAT guy must have been cold as ice to shoot that many people.
I am a pretty good shot, standing at a range by myself on a nice summer day. I guess its the muscle memory practice that carries over to the real thing.
