It appears as though “Son of a Right-Winger (expletive) has a lot of serious mental “issues” that he really needs to deal with. I think he’s been over programmed by his commie lib ‘RAT massas.

How did this get published in VV?? I heard Glenn Beck reading it on the air today. Its an excellent reply that many people should take to heart.
I think I will print this and carry it with me to show to any liberal friends who think negatively of me because I don’t follow their ideology.

The liberal, having been shown his folly, will respond to Andrew with expletives.

The world isn't being destroyed by democrats or republicans, red or blue, liberal or conservative, religious or atheist -- the world is being destroyed by one side believing the other side is destroying the world. No, it's pretty much the Democrats and their assorted collectivist fellow travelers around the globe. Course the GOP-e lets them get away with it, so they get partial blame too.

Thanks for posting that insightful column. A bit simplistic, but valuable for those of us who often get lost in the “us vs. them” mentality. Even with family members...

Its simpler than this- liberalism is a mental disease and the son has it.

Its an excellent reply that many people should take to heart. No it's not. It's "Can't we all just get along", padded to 1,000 words. The son is, without question, simply wrong in his beliefs. We have no way to know about the father (except that the "progressive" son disagrees with him about almost everything, which is a good sign). He might or might not hold incorrect views or just generally be a dick. But, if he's a conservative/libertarian, he's the only one of the two with even the opportunity to be right, but the author sounds as if the situation is symmetrical. It is not.

I believe we can reduce people to their beliefs, since those beliefs are the core of their beings. Love does not conquer all, as some people like to believe. As human beings, what are we but our beliefs and actions taken because of those beliefs? In particular, there is a right and a wrong for just about any situation. We used to call that ethics and morals; either one is ethical and moral or one is not.
I loved my father, but his core values—drug use and the culture thereof—were in direct conflict with my own core values. He centered himself around that lifestyle and refused to give it up, right until the day it killed him. I love my children, so they did not get to know him very well, because I refused to have them around that culture and he was generally too busy living that life to bother with the rest of us. His core beliefs and the choices he made because of them were in direct conflict with my own.
Our values—which include our politics—do, in fact, define us. This often transcends love. Sometimes those differences are irreconcilable, though we may love that person dearly.

When I read this:
Anything as infinitely complex as life, reality, and the human experience can never be summed up or organized in a definitive system, especially one based on "left or right," "A or B," "us or them."
I can't help but think this:
Anything as infinitely complex as climate can never be summed up or organized in a definitive system, especially one based on "warming or cooling"

....and the answer is “No, we can’t just all get along, Mr. Liberal, till you stop trying to control my life and my decisions. I’m not trying to control yours, so the only one with the ability to fix this situation is you and people like you.”

Years ago I used to read DU. I read a thread where the woman had herniated disks and her "Rethuglican" Mother was helping her by coming over and cleaning and doing laundry. The DUer complained about having to be nice to her Mother because she needed her but she said some very awful things on DU. PJ Comix DuFued it. It was truly ugly and a window into a liberals heart.
