Kentucky Judge Mocks Black Man's Obama T-Shirt (Video)

Jefferson County District Court Judge Sandra McLaughlin reportedly mocked Darryl Broaddus, who is African-American, for wearing a Barack Obama T-shirt in her Kentucky courtroom last summer.

Broaddus was being arraigned in court over a drug charge when Judge McLaughlin made the bizarre remarks, according to the Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting (video below).

Judge McLaughlin stated twice that the T-shirt of the President of the United States of America was “not helping” Broaddus' cause.

“He’s lucky to get out of here alive,” added Judge McLaughlin. “Did you see his t-shirt? Barack Obama, ‘Let’s Do It Again.’ That was a double whammy."

According to the Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting, Judge McLaughlin has a history of making odd remarks, and denied defendants the right to a public defender in four cases.

In response, Judge McLaughlin told the Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting, "I think I do a really good job. I show up on time and I work hard. Everyone in my court is treated fairly and respectfully.”

According to RawStory.com, Judge McLaughlin is the lowest-rated judge in Jefferson County per a survey of lawyers by the Louisville Bar Association.

However, Judge McLaughlin claims her low rating is because the Louisville Bar Association is full of defense attorneys who “just declared war on a tough judge.”

Judge McLaughlin, who is up for reelection in November, falsely claimed that she was “unanimously endorsed by the Fraternal Order of Police” on a campaign flyers, notes the Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting.

Mike Hettich, of the Deputy Sheriff’s Fraternal Order of Police Lodge, said the organization endorsed Judge McLaughlin's opponent Matthew Eckert.

No room for that in the Courtroom. Fortunately, where I practiced, we had some great Judges.

Anything you say or wear can and will be against you in a court of law.

Funniest "Obama" shirt I ever saw: a burly young black guy was wearing what appeared to be a sports jersey, with

FUBO

Across the back. Maybe it was the guy's name, or perhaps the name of a local (Japanese) team sponsor, but lol.

I wanted so bad to ask him if he was a member of Free Republic, but I strongly suspected that that wasn't the case.

If I saw someone trailing TP I would discreetly say something to the poor person, but a FUBO shirt? Some things are better left unsaid.

That would be funny but I think it most likely the shirt said FUBU - For Us, By Us. A very racist clothing line intended only for people who have overt African features.

No really, it was FUBO.

I looked up images for the fubu brand you mentioned... yikes!

Similar "look", but FUBO was on the upper back, and it wasn't anything stylish, just looked like a generic sports shirt that is personalized (and had been used for that purpose, and that he had just come from a game). So likely it was the guy's name.

I was trying not to stare (or crack up), lol.

I disagree.

Growing up in a PC educational system dominated by Left-wing rules of conduct, the accused has no excuse for not knowing what is appropriate dress.

from the video: “ oh he has a bunch of stuff, Oh! cruelty to animals -well that did it.” “the animals didn’t help and the t-shirt didn’t help either.”

Under the Left-wing Liberal rules, maybe she should have had him arrested again.

Consider this 14yo, who wore a NRA t-shirt and was arrested for ‘disturbing the education process’ and possible terroristic threats:

or this 16yo, who wore a political t-shirt to school and was ostracized by teachers and students:

I don’t like the idea that the only option we have is turnabout being fair play.

And I’d also like to think that a judge can behave better than the imbeciles who are running the public schools.

Of course I agree his attire was inappropriate and if the Judge had said: your attire is inappropriate, change and come back (not sure if that was possible under the circumstances, but I’m just going with it for now) that would have been OK.

But I don’t think he (or was it she?) should have indicated that he was inclined to punish the guy for something unrelated to the charges.

At the very least it’s extremely juvenile.

I was sure itching to take a picture! I was sitting inside a small food court area and while I saw the guy standing around for several minutes, a photo wasn’t going to work. Too bad he wasn’t just milling about on a sidewalk or something.

Another time (same place) I saw a large black woman (with what looked like a similar-sized chip on her shoulder) wearing the most hideous Obamashirt, with Obama’s face plastered across the front.

It was a very large shirt; it was a very large face. The FUBO shirt cancelled that one out though, lol.

I always, always have my eyes peeled in the Goodwill stores for a shirt like Ricky's (Trailer Park Boys)... just for the sheer hilarity of having that absolutely ridiculous shirt.

I don’t think turnabout is the best option, either, but on an article with a left-wing hysteria spin, I’ll point out the hypocracy.

The video (it’s a lady judge) should be compared with article.

First, Mr. Personality has got a picture on his shirt that is huge - it’s like, where’s your head behind that picture? who am I supposed to be looking at? Obama or you? is it Obama with the rap sheet? what?

but that’s not as bothersome as the slogan. People dress, consciously or unconsciously, to project what they are feeling.

So, there’s the slogan on the shirt “let’s do it again.”
Drug dealer, animal cruelty “lots of stuff”, and here he is asking for a favor from the judge (don’t throw me in jail, I’m a good citizen) with that kind of slogan on his shirt.

Let’s do ‘what’ again? go thru the court process again? snow a judge again? hurt another animal again? get back to dealing drugs again? Is it unreasonable to think that could be an unspoken but obvious criticism of the court system? Maybe that’s what lady=judge was thinking when she commented he was ‘lucky to get out alive.’

I think if anything influenced the judges’ bond amount more than the slogan, it was the animal cruelty charge - which she mentioned twice. Those are the people, as you probably know, who have a higher incidence of going on to beat wives, abuse children and graduate to homicide. “let’s do it again?”

I’m still not ready to label the judge ‘juvenile’. What am I missing?

My guess is that the shirt is from the Obama re-election campaign. Not only is this guy a criminal, he is also a guy. I’m pretty sure he grabbed the first shirt in the stack and put it on without giving a thought to it.

It makes even more sense that the Judge, who is a woman (I was a little confused about that for a bit, thanks for making it clear) would give more thought to the shirt than the criminal did.
