Virtue: A habitual and firm disposition to do the good. Cardinal virtues are prudence, justice, fortitude, and temperance. Traditional male virtues are strength, courage, independence, heroism in combat, and sexual initiative.
For many years, Jesus has been portrayed as a Galilean flower child, walking around the countryside being nice, preaching love and peace, and having a thing for Mary Magdalene. Somehow, this easygoing hippie runs afoul of the corrupt power structure, and ends up dying with career criminals, under horrible circumstances.
Of course, even a casual reading of the Gospels reveals something far different. If anything, Jesus is a confrontational, in-your-face young rebel, more than eager to match wits with the best and brightest, and not afraid to get physical (as in clearing the Temple). Although he can be very kind and forgiving, he spends a good portion of his time calling people names and warning them that they are headed straight to Hell. In short, nice guys and flower children dont get crucified.
But, this true picture flies in the face of how current convention views the ideal man. Much damage has been done by the assault on male virtues, but where did this revisionism come from?
Would you believe politics?
Allow me to connect the dots...

They had a few movies together and got on pretty well because they were both very professonal actors, even though they were as far apart politically as could be.
I just finished watching “In Harm’s Way”, which had parts I really enjoyed, even though the battle scenes were...lame. Kirk Douglas was a rogue Navy officer in “Harm’s Way”, but after you said that, I was curious...he did that movie in 1966. here are some he did after up to “Harm’s Way” in which he starred with John Wayne. It had a big cast,Kirk Douglas, Patricia Neal, Tom Tryon, Paula Prentiss, Stanley Holloway, Burgess Meredith, Brandon deWilde, Jill Haworth, Dana Andrews, and Henry Fonda, etc. and I LOVED the on screen chemistry between Patricia Neal and John Wayne...it was great to watch. Sigh. If only they had decent special effects for naval battles back then.

“I wonder how many here are old enough to remember when the word to describe male behavior in WASP America was masculine and the Latino word macho was used to describe the phony, overt, hyper male behavior famous among Latins, and Hispanics, and then feminism started, and male behavior started being mocked as macho behavior.”
....And then sometime around 1978 the result was sodomites proudly prancing around.
One of my very favorite movies: “Seven Days in May”
Killed off in waves of social unrest following World Wars I & II.
