They had a few movies together and got on pretty well because they were both very professonal actors, even though they were as far apart politically as could be.
I just finished watching “In Harm’s Way”, which had parts I really enjoyed, even though the battle scenes were...lame. Kirk Douglas was a rogue Navy officer in “Harm’s Way”, but after you said that, I was curious...he did that movie in 1966. here are some he did after up to “Harm’s Way” in which he starred with John Wayne. It had a big cast,Kirk Douglas, Patricia Neal, Tom Tryon, Paula Prentiss, Stanley Holloway, Burgess Meredith, Brandon deWilde, Jill Haworth, Dana Andrews, and Henry Fonda, etc. and I LOVED the on screen chemistry between Patricia Neal and John Wayne...it was great to watch. Sigh. If only they had decent special effects for naval battles back then.
