U.N. to intervene in Detroit water shutoffs: Talks on 'human-rights violations' planned w/Obama

Watch out, Detroit. Here comes the United Nations.

WND has learned that after issuing a statement last week condemning Detroit’s decision to send water shut-off notices to tens of thousands of customers behind in their payments, the U.N now plans to conduct confidential policy discussions with the Obama administration to be followed by a formal public report to the U.N. Human Rights Council.

On Monday, the U.N. Human Rights Council’s office in Geneva confirmed to WND that the U.N. plans to intervene directly in the Detroit water crisis, determined to apply international law to judge the U.S. in violation of human rights to safe water.

Detroit Water and Sewerage Department, DWSD, announced in March it would send shut-off notices to customers with balances more than $150 overdue or who are more than two months behind in their payments. The department, which said nearly half of the 324,000 water and sewerage accounts are overdue, has put out 46,000 notices since March. About 4,500 accounts have had their water shut off....

Freeloading and being a deadbeat is a human right?

I’m buying a repossessed house where, apparently, the water was shut off. They apparently were not in the house long, as they filled the toilets and there’s one pile beside the tub. But I’m told by other landlords that sometimes they’re in the house months after the water and power are shut off and they generally dedicate one room as the toilet and cover the floor.

Oh, this is a really great neighborhood, but still, all the windows are broken, doors are ripped off and there are holes in every wall. These were people who financed 120% of the house. Who the heck would finance 120% of something? Then, the adjustable rate adjusted.

I recommend a community well at which people could fill their jugs for use at home. It is good enough for most of the world, and private plumbing is not a human right, yet.

I wonder what Obama has done to urge this on the UN? They would not do this if not invited in by the biggest contributor to the UN Budget.

Let’s pay up Detroit’s water bills and deduct it from our UN dues.

Guaranteed if Detroit was all white, the Liberal Globalist UN would not give an excrement about water shutoffs...

Nah, just the UN fishing for some way to put us on the same moral plane with Zimbabwe or Burma.

The only ones the UN is prepared to defend.

I thought we gave Detroit to Fiat and the Italians? Did they renege on their payments to Obama?

They’ve actually got a point. A minimal amount of water should be available, even if it’s through safe community wells, for cleanliness and drinking. Do we really want another potential hotspot for illnesses to spread? Or for these folks to find their way to the suburbs?

I’ll bet $5 that most — if not all — of these deadbeats are already getting cash from the taxpayers.

There is no reason for them to not pay a water bill.

I’m surprised they haven’t tapped the fire hydrants.

These folks didn’t pay their water bill.
As with any utility, don’t pay, it gets shut off.

It’s a horror story where the foolish/ignorant home owner (and lender) thinks it is likely that the home value will soon shoot up 20%.

And the recent bubble made it look like that would happen. Until that kind of thing stopped happening.

That is assuming the fire hydrants work.

Imagine the UN sending in water bearing peacekeepers into Detroit. At night. With white jeeps and blue helmets.

What could go wrong?
