The last 24 hours have been quite chaotic, with ups and downs.

Bottom line, our dog has been going downhill and we finally decided today, she just isn't doing well.

Today was my mother's birthday, and just after getting her favorite simple KFC meals it became apparent our dog Tara was at the end of the line. I had hoped we could put it off. But unfortunately my mom's birthday was not the happiest.

Tomorrow is Tara's birthday. She just missed being 12, and thus being allowed in the 13 Club of the German Shepherd Club of America.

Too late now to try to post pix. I may try later.

Goodnight, my sweets.

Had to put our dog Joe down a couple months ago. It hurts. You are in our prayers.

That's some tough stuff right there.

Hang on to the good memories as best you can.

Lost two dogs in the past year. They trust us to do what is best for them, but that doesn’t make it any easier.

Your pup loved you to the end, and will beyond.

I’m so sorry for your loss.

Tara is in Heaven. Read Romans 8:18-21.

There is sorrow enough in the natural way
From men and women to fill our day;
But when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and sisters I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.

Buy a pup and your money will buy
Love unflinching that cannot lie—
Perfect passion and worship fed
By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head.
Nevertheless it is hardly fair
To risk your heart for a dog to tear.

When the fourteen years that nature permits
Are closing in asthma or tumors or fits
And the vet’s unspoken prescription runs
To lethal chambers, or loaded guns.
Then you will find—its your own affair
But—you’ve given your heart to a dog to tear.

When the body that lived at your single will
When the whimper of welcome is stilled (how still!)
When the spirit that answered your every mood
Is gone—wherever it goes—for good,
You still discover how much you care
And will give your heart to a dog to tear.

We’ve sorrow enough in the natural way
When it comes to burying Christian clay.
Our loves are not given, but only lent,
At compound interest of cent per cent.
Though it is not always the case, I believe,
That the longer we’ve kept ‘em the more do we grieve;
For when debts are payable, right or wrong,
A short time loan is as bad as a long—
So why in Heaven (before we are there)
Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear?

- R. Kipling

Losing a pet is losing a member of your family.

Condolences for your loss.

My heart goes out to you. There is no better companion than a canine and even though we know it is coming, the losses are hard.

We had to say goodbye two of our loving dogs last year and miss them dearly, but we are comforted in knowing that we made every day of their faithful lives as good as could be and gave them the best of care always.

I always say the best way to honor a dog that has gone is to give a loving home to another. We have from two to four dogs always at varied ages so we have someone to cuddle when one has to be let go.

Thanks...

My beautiful German Shepherd has come to the end.

Not really. The wonderful author (and English vet) James Herriot was once asked if pets are in Heaven. He said that he believed that they are. I agree.
