I’m convinced this is mostly a scheme to send manufacturing money to representative’s districts or senator’s states. There are three manufacturers, all of whom own a few politicians. Oshkosh, AM General and Force Protection. They were producing scads of these for Afghanistan. But those contracts have (I think) played out. If they shut down production then those companies are out of business. That’s thousands of jobs.
Incidentally, the Venezuelan police are using vehicles like this to machine gun crowds with impunity.
Washington is pretty close to Fairfield, so this might come in handy if the Maharishi gets out of line.

Every week day when I drive down I35W south of Fort Worth between 4:-5:30pm, I see two or three of these unmarked vehicles driving north. Not a caravan from Fort Hood, as there are no other troop vehicles.
Strange, very strange indeed......
How about a big flower pot full of aluminum powder and rust set on the hood? Light and get away.

Its getting bad, not DALLAS or HOUSTON bad, as that is an entirely different traffic hazard. But bad enough.
I know these MRAPS? come from Fort Hood, just wonder how many others make the commute if I see two or three at the same time or near same time every day? I usually meet them as they are driving north between Burleson and Alvarado.
No markings what so ever. Just desert tan. Easier to drive them to delivery than to truck those monsters.

My take on this is ‘Good, more small communities need ‘em.” Should things go truly south between the people and the government; along with its dependent classes, how many of these things do you think will quickly fall in to the hands of people fighting tyranny to be used against the people’s would be masters?
Also, people need to understand the operators of these things live in their communities, not behind barbwire and sandbags like in Iraq and A-stan. They have to go out and pick up the paper, buy groceries, take their kids to school, etc. MRAPs and such are useless without people to operate them.
The MRAPs were designed to have the occupants survive a significant explosion from IEDs and insurgent fire. There was less of an design requirement for continue function of the vehicle.
Mostly it was to keep soldiers from death due to a roadside bomb.
Maybe the fine police of the Shavano Park PD will get one. I do like the idea of turning it into a smoker.
