Crist to speak for Dems at Gridiron [squares off with Ted Cruz]
The Hill ^ | January 14, 2014 | Emily Goodin

Republican-turned-Independent-turned-Democrat Charlie Crist will be the Democratic speaker at Washington's famed Gridiron dinner.

He will face off against Republican Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas) at the March event.

Gridiron president Clark Hoyt of Bloomberg announced the selection in an email to members on Tuesday.

"I'm delighted to announce that former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist will be the Democratic speaker at the 2014 Gridiron Spring Dinner on Saturday, March 8. Crist will square off against Texas Sen. Ted Cruz representing the Republicans," Hoyt wrote in an email obtained by The Hill.

Crist, the former Republican governor of Florida, is running for his old job again — this time as a Democrat.

He left the gubernatorial office in 2010 to run for the Senate. During that race, being overtaken in polls by Republican candidate Marco Rubio (who went on to win the seat), Crist switched and ran as an Independent. He joined the Democratic Party in 2012 and endorsed President Obama for re-election.

The Gridiron Dinner is one of Washington's most oldest and prestigious events. The white-tie gathering features some of the most prominent names in politics and the club membership is invitation-only.

The evening's speakers are usually seen as up-and-comers in the party. President Obama has only gone twice while in office and has not said if he'll attend this year's.

That’s exactly what Cruz said about Biden. He said go to any party and say, Vice President Joe Biden, and people will begin to laugh immediately. The jokes write themselves.

Republican-turned-Independent-turned-Democrat

Let's see, that would be a major part of the GOP, right? So now we have the plainly Socialist Party, then the Democratic Party described above, and then we have Americans (including the Tea Party and Sarah Palin).

Crist only thinks he is really smart, but he’s really isn’t very bright.

Cruz is probably the best debater in the country.

Crist is bringing a knife to a tank battle.

Yesterday afternoon I saw a glowing Cornyn campaign ad touting all the conservative stances he’d taken (with shots of him out on the prairie in his white Stetson cowboy hat).

Following that ad was one slamming Steve Stockman (with mentions of stories in the liberal rag Houston Chronicle for proof) with dark blurry menacing pictures of Stockman.

I thought, Wow! Cornyn must have some pretty bad polling numbers.

He must have nightmares about how Tea Party candidate Ted Cruz came from way behind to beat Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst to take the TX Senate seat vacated by Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Don't just single out Cornyn .....

When Crist announced in May he would seek the Senate seat being vacated by Mel Martinez in May, establishment Republicans like Mitch McConnell and John Cornyn rushed to endorse him because of his proven fundraising abilities and his demonstrated support across party lines.

Unbelievable that we're still fighting the gopE over this same battle - conservatives versus liberal democRATS in drag ...

“I thought, Wow! Cornyn must have some pretty bad polling numbers.”

He’s doing whatever he has to to avoid a runoff, so he can get reelected and go back to being McConnell’s and the democrat’s lapdog.

His nightmares are just beginning.

We in Texas don’t take kindly to backstabbers.
