Meanwhile, ten feet below ground, the temperature is a constant mid-forties. That’s a little cool, but it’s a better base from which to start your heat production, than sero.

You’ve got an Ârtifact in your tagl
“Cut and Paste” only works on letters. Punctuation tends to get garbled.

Below ground/cave temp is generally the annual average for the region. I think up here that closer to 38 degrees.
Not sure I want to drill half way to the mantle just to get a decent heat pump going.

You’d think they’d switch sides to chain you to.

In Ben-Hur, which I just read, the eponymous character has to make a special request to change sides occasionally so he doesn't get lopsided.

"Not sure I want to drill half way to the mantle just to get a decent heat pump going." You only need to get below the frost line, and glom onto a chunk of thermal mass.
Then you can pump heat into or out of that same mass on an annual cycle. The extra heat of summer becomes the extracted heat of winter.
In your climate, I would supplement the heat storage by building a solar-gain window into the system. This could be like a cold-frame, but designed to absorb heat exclusively for storage underground. In theory, during certain parts of the year, you could get by with only circulating what you've got to where you want it. No compression needed.

"I AM an artifact. And thank you." I am an artifact too, if you switch a couple of letters around.

The dishes are done, my pills for the week are done been sorted *snort* and I have to finish that box! LOL! At least I’m in no rush now. ~~~
~~~ The boxes are ready to go! One large and one medium. I included some different styles of beaded jewelry that can either be used as templates or taken apart and used in something else.
Some sizes are so wacky. I’ve gotten used to having to try on clothes because of the crazy sizing. I’m a small in most things, size 8 in jeans.
We got snow, too, yet again. I’ve never been a warm weather fan, but I may have to consider.
At 5’9”, I’ve never fit into anything smaller than a 7, and that was when my son was a tot and I would eat only every 2nd or 3rd day. Don’t want to go through that again, though it would be nice to lose 30 pounds! LOL!
LOL
A long time ago I went through a period where I got down to a size 5, but for my body and bone structure, that was too thin. People used to ask me, “Are you eating?” *sigh*
I like myself better now-—smallish, but with decent curves.
It isn’t pretty is it.
That whole area is below sea level , so lack of dredging in the river chanels really causes problems.
I have clothes that fit from size 0 to size 8.
Kathleen’s had a growth spurt; she’ll need 3T clothes for spring.
