Dispelling Myths: The Case for Immigration Reform [Enjoy your made-in-America ZOT, troll]
Red Dirt Report ^ | 12/27/2013 | Brian Woodward

Posted on 12/27/2013 11:24:17 AM PST by honestabe010

In his press conference on December 20th, President Obama urged the House of Representatives to support the Senate’s immigration bill, which passed 68-32 in late June. Among the concerns cited by Americans who oppose reform are that immigrants will take their jobs, drive down wages, increase criminal activity, burden the welfare system, and reshape the cultural dynamic of the country. These concerns are mostly ill-founded. The legitimate concerns have real solutions, and a more open immigration policy will be a net benefit for all Americans...

Highlights from Article:

- A 2013 study by the American Action Forum states that "immigration reform can raise population growth, labor force growth, and thus growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP).”

- In 2013 the Bipartisan Policy Center came to similar conclusions. It makes the prediction that current provisions, as included in the Senate Bill, would raise GDP 4.8 percent over twenty years.

- According to the Immigration Policy Center, immigrant males between the ages of 18 and 39 (which constitute the greatest portion of the prison population) are five times less likely to be incarcerated than are natives.

- A 2011 survey by the Pew Research Center revealed that 92 percent of second generation and 96 percent of third generation Hispanics speak English proficiently.

- A 2010 Gallup poll revealed that Hispanics attend church services more often than non-Hispanic whites.

- Since an influx of immigrants means an expansion of the labor supply, many assert that the result will be less jobs and lower wages. However, as asserted by Jason Riley, a member of the Wall Street Journal editorial board, “The number of jobs in the United States is not static. It’s fluid, which is how we want it to be.”

Kathleen had a good nap and didn’t cough. She’s gone outside with some brothers for a little while. I just heard fussing upstairs that seems to have included Bill, so maybe he’s pulled himself together.

Nothing like an almost adult male to cause fussing among the lower ranks...I’m hoping it’s all temporary.

Sunbeans didn’t come in the windows today because of the overcast, but the sun is shining now, and I was out in it for a while.

I was witness to an irate neighbor trying to browbeat the mail carrier because she got mail for someone else. I had to step in and show my ugly side. The carrier we have is smart, conscientious and caring, and does what her job demands. This cranky gal is one of a few who live here who want to strike out at everyone for their maladies.

I suggested she contact the post master and she blew up and and asked how many times she had to do that before the mailman “got it right.” I told her it obviously happened on “substitute day,” and not to take it out on the current carrier.

She then blamed the carrier for the mistakes of the subs, and the gal I had been talking to said, (not quite so under her breath) “Don’t you have anything better to do?”

Bill thinks he should have a private bathroom, but he doesn’t want to pay rent on an apartment or anything.

So he’s going to rely on his folks forever? His big sister should tell him how things really are.

My kids, bless their hearts, knew they had three choices at the age of 18: 1) get a job and move out, 2) enter the military, or 3) go to college. If they went to college, housing could be negotiated, but excess liberties in the event could result in ousting.

If Igor and I could both move out and make it, our kids could, too.

He’ll just have to share the bathroom.

When I get my Independent Living apartment, like my mom’s, I want my own bathroom!

We have a rabbit sitting about 6 feet from the kitchen door. Jake is watching it very closely!

I have my own bathroom, but it has no window and no skylight, so I want another...*snart*

A few days ago, I got a call from a place that thought I was interested in “assisted living.” I said, “WHAT?? Do I sound like I need assisted living accommodations?"

She apologized.

The rabbit ran away when we turned on the light outside. Then I let Jake out. If the rabbit was dumb enough to hang around, it deserves to be eaten.

Mom booted me out of the house at 16. I was working 3 part-time jobs and going to high-school. I managed.

I also learned that one should be careful what one says to mom.

This is what cause me to ask.

It's very difficult to listen to a lively lecture on the history of mechanization of Britain.... when it comes from him. I spent 20 minutes thinking... what am I expecting this guy to do? And then it hit me it might be him.

My subconscious was waiting for pratfalls that never happened.

Thank you, and now, back to your regularly scheduled undead thread. Sorry for the disruption folks. No animals were very badly harmed in the creation of this interruption. (mostly).

Wait, what?

If there were anything regular or orderly about the Undead Thread, we wouldn't recognize the place.

We're colonizing the Solar System. A functionally similar activity, so I can understand the confusion.
