Dispelling Myths: The Case for Immigration Reform [Enjoy your made-in-America ZOT, troll]
Red Dirt Report ^ | 12/27/2013 | Brian Woodward

Posted on 12/27/2013 11:24:17 AM PST by honestabe010

In his press conference on December 20th, President Obama urged the House of Representatives to support the Senate’s immigration bill, which passed 68-32 in late June. Among the concerns cited by Americans who oppose reform are that immigrants will take their jobs, drive down wages, increase criminal activity, burden the welfare system, and reshape the cultural dynamic of the country. These concerns are mostly ill-founded. The legitimate concerns have real solutions, and a more open immigration policy will be a net benefit for all Americans...

Highlights from Article:

- A 2013 study by the American Action Forum states that "immigration reform can raise population growth, labor force growth, and thus growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP).”

- In 2013 the Bipartisan Policy Center came to similar conclusions. It makes the prediction that current provisions, as included in the Senate Bill, would raise GDP 4.8 percent over twenty years.

- According to the Immigration Policy Center, immigrant males between the ages of 18 and 39 (which constitute the greatest portion of the prison population) are five times less likely to be incarcerated than are natives.

- A 2011 survey by the Pew Research Center revealed that 92 percent of second generation and 96 percent of third generation Hispanics speak English proficiently.

- A 2010 Gallup poll revealed that Hispanics attend church services more often than non-Hispanic whites.

- Since an influx of immigrants means an expansion of the labor supply, many assert that the result will be less jobs and lower wages. However, as asserted by Jason Riley, a member of the Wall Street Journal editorial board, “The number of jobs in the United States is not static. It’s fluid, which is how we want it to be.”

Oh, well. It was a tiny kitteh, hard to see. I picked it mainly for the nice floor. I figure it’s a house from the 1940s in a neighborhood that’s going downhill. Rent is low, occupied by several college students and a tiny kitteh.

Could this be the rise of the Vegetable mafia or just basic food thuggery?

Rents are surprisingly high in my area right now. Someone on a thread about real estate said it’s due to inflation, on the one hand, and tighter credit on the other. People who can afford to pay this much can’t get a mortgage.

Makes me glad we’re not trying to sell our house!

"Hrumpf"

Good morning, Mr. Moose. I see that you got your dose of dos, and that you are in your usual good mood.

I'll be right there, too, as soon as the caffeine makes the climb to my brain.

Be it known, Moosie, I know how to do them all. It’s the newer dances that I’m unfamiliar with.

And Bob, if a square dance is done properly, the corners are imaginary. Two people make a side to the square, so the corners are non-existent.

I love true colors and that includes bright red and emerald green. Of course, chocolate brown and turquoise have been a favorite for years...I even made one into an afghan!

All the luck will run out of it that way.

I used to have one over my door, always. I think my son has it, now...no wonder my luck has been so lousy!! LOL!

I’m noted for making “What’s with this casserole again?” and “That meat dish,” and “The stuff with lentils,” and “The chickpea dish with noodles” and “The noodle dish with chickpeas.”

I'm noted for making Glop. Big favorite, never any leftovers.

*snicker*

Speaking of *snickering*, I’m going to Walmart. One of the guys on the NC board jokes that everyone in the state must eat milk sandwiches, because whenever there’s any hint of bad weather, everyone rushes to buy bread and milk.

I care more about wine, though.

I’m always surprised about one thing. Since everything on the list for emergency preparations is white; milk, bread, and toilet paper.

Rice should be on that list.

At least it’s being used! LOL!

I just sorted through the beads and equipment, and I have more than I remembered. I have to go to the PO and get a large box to put it all in. And some only slipped through my fingers twice, so I had a little bit of clean-up to do...well, a dustpan full, anyway! ;o]

It will cost me $15+ to mail it, so it will be Monday before I can get it shipped off. I don’t have that much in my stamps.com account.

Anyway, I will keep you posted on the packing. There is enough variety to keep everyone happy, I think.
