I have a friend who is doing the fasting 2 days a week and says it works for him.
The other extreme is the water only diet for several days until the body goes into the state where it is consuming body fat.
The only thing i can tell you is that you really will feel a whole lot better when you shed the overload.
You are sabotaging your success when you do “LOW FAT”.
You should do a “GOOD FAT” not “BAD FAT” diet.
If you eat low fat, rabbit food, your body will RAMP UP the intake. If it does not, you will damage your health. You will notice your eyes getting worse, skin and hair first.
You NEED GOOD FATS to keep all those fat soluble vitamins going to your cells.
Eat plenty of GOOD FATs, take vitamins, drink lots of water, and eat only when you are hungry (cut out sodas) and the pounds will fall off you.
Good Fat= Coconut oil, Omega 6
“frozen Lean Cuisine dinners and Protein drinks. Nutrition bars are my new friend”
Bleah. Fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains. Much healthier. That processed stuff is crap.
... I read as I'm sitting in front of the computer wolfing the remains of a can of mixed nuts. *erp*
Animal fats and animal proteins, provided by nature as much as vegetables and fruits are, have an important place in the physiology of a lot of us. The same medical establishment that badmouths lard, were 20 years ago telling us to use Crisco and margerine and other hydrogenated fats. They were wrong then, they're verly likely wrong now.
Wow congrats for losing the weight. I myself have been struggling with it since childhood. Food comforted me during difficult periods. I have no doubt if I remained think I probably would have been on drugs or some other vice. As a child I remember eating anything and knowing full well I was not hungry.
Now I’m trying to lose it using http://www.sparkpeople.com/ which is free. Right now being unemployed is not easy but it easier since with little money I have, I barely can get food.
As stated how can one get so overweight and allow it. I thought about it until it dawn on me. If you ask an Anorexic how can they get so thin, they don’t consider or feel thin. They believe they are Fat so they continue on losing more weight until they are bones. The same is with an obese, but reverse. I don’t FEEL fat, so even gaining 5 lbs is not much so I don’t feel it. I do hate myself for letting go but hell I’m not going to give up trying. Again Congrats with the weight loss.
6 foot 3, 195 pound, 62 YO male here.
Been at this weight the past 20 years.
However, I’ve had to make significant diet changes and it gets more draconian the older you get as you burn 100 calories less per day for every 10 years of age.
For me: few baked items allowed except hamburger rolls and the crust of an ocassional pizza. No cake-cookies-doughnuts-muffins-beer. Almost no cheese except on pizza. Rice and corn chosen over wheat snacks. Candy of choice: dark chocolate.
Choose low calorie density items of high density, i.e. the salad bar over the desert bar. Nuts-dairy-meats are also high density foods, and should be moderated.
For alcohol: neat is the word.
Lo-carb. Period. It’s been proven over and over. If you don’t drink, it’s easy and fun.
“Eat, Mrs. Goldfarb, Eat” was a parody by Allan Sherman to the tune of “Glow Worm” on his 1964 album “For Swinging Livers Only”.
“Beautiful Teamsters” & his version of the Twelve Days of Christmas on the same album are also hilarious.
I am also 100 pounds above my ideal weight. 60 pounds of that was put on after getting married 7 years ago. I’m inspired by your story...maybe it’s time for me to deal with this too.
lol! That just never gets old!
why use lard when much better shelf stable fats are available?
Yes, it’s 15$ vs 4$, but the numerous health benefits of Coconut oil are NOT shared by lard.
Does lard improve thyroid function? Increase Metabolism? Fight diabetes?
Do some research — Yes, lard is better than SOME vegetable oils.
I am not talking about which is worse, I am talking about what is GOOD for you.
I’ve lost 20 lbs. over the past five weeks on my version of the Atkins diet. I have about 20 more to go.
No carbs at all week one, then ease some of them back in. Pretty much have to give up sugar.
No beer, but Atkins’ followers say that alcohol is not prohibited.
LOL, you’re right. I have a tight budget and fortunately a lot of what I eat now is pretty cheap: frozen dinners and yogurt (usually with coupons) and I put a water filter on my faucet and I wash and refill my water bottles. I’ve found when I exercise I’m not as hungry. I’ll do what has worked in the past, which is basically eat a lot less and exercise.
Call me old-fashioned. I'm not knocking coconut oil -- I'm just saying that automatic rejection of fats that have kept us going pretty well for the last couple of thousand years, shouldn't be tossed out the window for a substitute that is infinitely more involved to process, I would think.
I kind of think real whole food is the better way to go, and that includes animal proteins dairy, egg, and meat. It's balanced. I predict that in eggs, the white-only craze is destined to be ousted down the line. They're going to discover that you need something in the yolk to process it. It only makes sense. The egg is a package. God made it that way for a reason.
It's why He made Brazil nuts so hard to crack!!!! I swear. I am a shameless hedonist when it comes to nuts (I'm 130 lbs 5'4"). Trader Joe's sells Brazil Nuts by the bag. I ate so many for so long that I gave myself a case of silenium poisoning! {^) Served me right! In nature, there's no way I could ever get my hands on that many Brazil nuts at one time! {^) Used to eat fresh off-the-tree coconut, too. Gained much weight immediately!!! Coconut is highly delicious and addicting.
Cute, don’t know that one.
I really do have to eat more fruits and vegetables. I’ve never been a fruit eater, wish I was.
Thank you for the tips.I plan on taking it off slowly. I’d love to lose 2 lbs. a week steadily, but don’t know if that will happen. I’m trying my best though!
Thank you so much for your encouragement!
