Florida Atlantic Univ. student claims he was suspended for not stomping on Jesus [VIDEO]

A student at Florida Atlantic University has charged that his professor in intercultural communications class told the whole class to write the name JESUS in bold letters on a piece of paper, then drop the papers and stomp all over them.

The alleged incident happened three weeks ago on the Davie, Florida campus of FAU, according to WPEC-TV. (Scroll down for the video.)

Junior Ryan Rotela, a devout Mormon, is the student making the charge.

“Anytime you stomp on something it shows that you believe that something has no value,” he told the South Florida CBS affiliate. “So if you were to stomp on the word Jesus, it says that the word has no value.”

Some students stomped; others, including Rotela, didn’t. He said he told the instructor, Deandre Poole, that the assignment offended his religious convictions.

Two days later, the junior alleges, he went to an FAU school official to express his unease with the assignment.

The result? Rotela has been suspended from the class.

An FAU official defended the decision, telling WPEC that the Jesus-stomping was part of a classroom exercise from a textbook: “Intercultural Communication: A Contextual Approach, 5th Edition.”

What would even give a professor the idea to even suggest this?

Oh, I didn't read far enough. Apparantly, everything is fine, since the idea came from a text book.

Back in the 1600s when the Japanese were exterminating Christianity they created a medallion with Christian imagery ~ they'd toss it down in front of someone accused of being a Christian and demand they step on it.

If they didn't step on it they'd lop off their heads.

The professor probably had that in mind ~ and he should be watched closely by appropriate authorities in a mental hospital setting.

The university's response was not appropriate!

All things considered however, the student isn't going to finish that course ~ toss him out of the class, or do a mental health evaluation on the prof, and that'll be the end of that course.

I call, ‘fake.’ Everyone knows Mormons aren’t Christians.

When I first saw this story, I couldn’t see why stomping on ANYONE had any connection at all with—well—education.

But now I see that this was an “intercultural communications class.”

Anyone dumb enough to take a class in intercultural communications ought to expect something like this, I’m afraid.

Stay away from a class on gender bending or intercultural communications. I would expect they teach that it’s OK to stomp on Jesus, or Whitey. Just don’t try stomping on a designated minority, or on Mohammed.

Intercultural communications, indeed. The wave of the future.

So is the liberal, socialist RAT bastard professor going to engage the class in stomping on the muzlim bastard prophet mohammad's name? I doubt that very much.

I applaud the students who refused to do this, but quite honestly there should be a flood of lawsuits raining down on both the "university" and the professor. We need to start fighting back HARD against these liberal socialist bastards.

I’m just hoping it’s not part of the ‘core curriculum’ and is mandatory to take it.

If only there was a way to destroy this professor’s life. I’d be all in.

You folks only know part of the story. It turns out that the prof, Deandre Poole, is a DEMOCRAT PARTY OFFICIAL.

Since this is from the Daily Caller, I wouldn’t bet the farm on its accuracy. Here is a synopsis of the lesson: “Have the students write the name JESUS in big letters on a piece of paper,” the lesson says. “Ask the students to stand up and put the paper on the floor in front of them with the name facing up. Ask the students to think about it for a moment. After a brief period of silence instruct them to step on the paper. Most will hesitate. Ask why they can’t step on the paper. Discuss the importance of symbols in culture.” Obviously the expectation is that some student won’t do as instructed (especially given that Christianity is the predominant religion in the US), and this is meant to stimulate discussion - a vigorous one too, I would think. Anyway, people don’t get suspended for not doing assignments, they get bad grades, and that makes me think there is more to this story than what the DC is reporting.

I so wish I was taking that class. I’d love to see the professor’s face when I wrote Mohamed on the paper and stomped on it.

Then the class could enjoy watching him explode as he tried to explain why it was OK to stomp on Jesus but not on Mohamed.

An FAU official defended the decision,

FAU stands for Find Another University. They seem to be involved in some sort of controversy every couple of months.

Screw that class and ask for a refund for the cirruculim that the idiot in charge that decided to do this!
Why do parents continue to fund these institutions1
pull you kids and find a real college!
Stomp on Jesus, Learn to be a Lesbian, or a Gay guy, learn about total bullshit and the college will charge tuition to the max!
When you get to the pinnacle in life which is a job interview your kid can say I Stomped Jesus learned about Lesbians the gay community, and the Hatred of the Values America once stood for from my my parents and not some paid professor that bilks a college out of money with no profitible action!

The College of the Ozarks doesn’t charge tuition, instead all students work on campus.

The same party that loudly and repeatedly booooed God at their convention? I'm shocked...shocked!

Here is the "professor's" photo. He is not amused with this thread.
