Why are multiple nuclear power plants listed as a Con? I see them as a plus.
What a bunch of baloney.
That's OK. Most people on Free Republic write at a kindergarten level.
Right. Everybody stay out of Idaho and move to Texas.
Good thing you Texans don’t have to deal with hurricanes.
Hey, wait a minute...
Unfortunately, $16K does not indicate a huge property in NJ. In certain municipalities in central Jersey, it’s par for a larger middle-clase home. We’d be better off simply sending checks directly to Newark and Camden; it would probably be cheaper for us.
There are, however, some surprisingly beautiful places in NJ: the Somerset Hills, the Jersey shore, state parks, Grounds for Sculpture, to name but a few. And for those cosmopolites among us, proximity to NYC.
Why is Cold weather in Wisconsin a negetive. Some of us like it cold abnd nuke plants lower energy costs.
or the New Madrid fault in Mizzou (and one other) are not reasons to downgrade a rating.
Nucleur plants are a positives. Author has a real problem with nucleur energy as Yucca Mtn. in Nevada was also cited as a con.
In my AZ. case, and many western states, he neglected to mention the virtual absence of mosquitoes. Damn, I hate mosquitoes. And I used to hate feeling trapped indoors for several months a year, and hassling with everyday existence in rains, snow, etc.
We've had a chance to visit many regions, cities over the last few years, gotten to know many cities..mostly in the south. I like 'em all. North Carolina ranks well imho.... and Tampa also stands out as a city.
Yes both PA. and NY state both have beautiful places and scenery to live. The weather isn’t too extreme either way. Too bad Dems, taxes and economy has hurt these states along with their big cities socialistic drecks and unfair share of 3rd world imports mucking up the balance.
Whoever put this together doesn’t appear to have ever been here. Michigan winters are actually relatively mild depending on where you are (We’re a big state) due to the lakes. We have a short growing season if you want to grow coconuts but pretty much any other temperate region fruits and veggies do fine here in a normal year. Too much snow is also relative to where you are. In some parts of the state, several feet of snow is normal but in others 2 feet is a lot.
Judging by our population growth, many are.
Reports say 1,500 per day are legally entering Texas to live.
Have no problem with Idaho, am sure it is a fine place to live. Texas is not without it’s problems, but it has a friendly neighborly culture in general. Oklahoma is the same way.
But the scale and development of Texas vs Idaho make a comparison not very relevant.
Texas is easier on the wallet compared to many other places.
A little too hot in summer, stinging skeeters, fireants and the clay soil in our area is awful. Have to keep it moist or it dries, cracks and heaves the homes foundations.
Think I want to find a mountainous home with a babbling brook running behind it is on my wishlist.
Cons: traffic; violent home invasions by gangs of illegal aliens & recent immigrants whom the authorities; a love of illegal aliens in northern part of the state; a tax department that double taxes in select cases - possibly the only one in the country.
Many of the author’s comparisons aren’t very relevant.
I live in the middle of nowhere and only 5-6 transplants with the big city attitude can really screw things up for the people who like things the way they are.
The Grand Tetons will be displeased.
Idaho deserves the A. People know and help their neighbors there. When you need help, it’s always there and it’s never from the government, it’s from generous people in small communities and cities. If a bunch of asshats moved there it wouldn’t deserve the A.
I would rate Indiana higher - although it is a long time ago since I was there and it might have changed. Then there were very few illegal aliens, prices of beautiful homes were more than reasonable, Indianapolis had a terrific children’s museum, and traffic wasn’t bad even during rush hours.
I agree.
South Carolina
Cons: hurricanes, not enough jobs, multiple nuclear power plants, crime, gang violence, rampant poverty
not enough jobs - Tell me about it!
multiple nuclear power plants - Um, how is that a con? That’s where a lot of the jobs are. Safest places to work actually.
crime - That applies everywhere.
gang violence - What gang violence?
rampant poverty - Welcome to the Deep South.
My understanding is that North Idaho winters have helped chase many Californians back home...a beautiful thing.
