The principle of the Great Leader was established in 1917 when Vladimir Lenin came to power in Russia after the Bolshevik coup. With personal control over the Russian media and police, Lenin built his cult of personality and annihilated his opponents. When Lenin died in 1924, his grateful nation resurrected the ancient Egyptian ritual of having his body mummified. His remains are still propped up against the Kremlin wall in Moscow.

Interesting factoid I have picked up about Lenin is that when he was in the process of dying, parts of his body began to decay while he was still conscious and he smelled really bad. The only people they could get to take care of him were some Catholic nursing nuns. The evening of his death the people of that city where he died, heard ungodly howls that really freaked them out mainly because no one knew what direction they were coming from or even what kind of an animal was making all that noise. And, the reason why they decided to embalm him was because as they were pillaging Russia they stole from churches, and ended up with the bodies of numerous saints who had died and whose bodies were totally incorrupt, flexible and with no odor. Well, they could not let those Christians best them at all. So they decided to embalm the heck out of Lenin's body. And, by gosh they were going to make him a saint any way they could, even to the point of mimicking what is considered by the Catholic Church to be Godly miracles.

This is well-expressed. Thanks for posting.

That so many Americans are ignorant of this sort of history is what is disturbing here. To see Americans naively play the role of Useful Idiots, and have no idea what happens to Useful idiots under Great Leaders once power is consolidated, is frightening.

Equally as frightening is the historical reality that Great Leaders never peacefully relinquish the reins of power. Our nation, as we have known it, is not likely to survive the next few months.

I often tell people on the Left this simple question: what is a viable alternative to capitalism?

We've already tried one failed alternative: Communism. Ask elderly survivors of the former Soviet Union under Stalin and China under Mao or anyone older than 35 who remembers Communist rule in Eastern Europe--they will remember the days when one-party rule, a tightly controlled mass media, and brutal state police resulted in (in my best guess) close to 200 million dead from misguided Communist policies from the time of the Bolshevik revolution to the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991.

And I am a personal witness to that horror, too. I was in Hong Kong as a small child in 1967, living in fear as Communist sympathizers terrorized the then-British colony with riots and the placement of homemade bombs on the streets. It was only the direct intervention of the British military that put a stop to these riots. A more fearful note: the military commander of the Guangzhou Region of the People's Liberation Army in 1967, Huang Yongsheng, actually suggested China invade Hong Kong, but Premier Zhou Enlai--who in retrospect wielded his influence to stop the worst aspects of the Cultural Revolution--thankfully turned down the idea, since such an invasion could have triggered off World War III.

Now you know why I am staunchly conservative in many of my views.

Obama is a piss ant. The only thing he will be remembered for is what a staggeringly stupid, incompetent piss ant he was.
