Who Won the Republican Debate
Elephant Watcher ^ | May 5, 2011

"So who won the debate? In a political debate, of course, there is no such thing as "winning the argument." Instead, candidates aim to achieve certain goals. In this case--even for Pawlenty--the goal was to attract media attention. The debates also present an opportunity for the candidates to prove their rhetorical ability. So who succeeded?

No candidate performed in an outstanding way. Two candidates, Santorum and Johnson, performed poorly. But Cain, Paul, and Pawlenty each achieved what they set out to do...."

“Herman Cain has no public service experience.
He needs to be a Governor, or at least a Senator. “

I said the same thing 2 weeks ago. But you know, tonight, he was on fire and on target.

Against Obama, he’d make a credible candidate.
He has the REAL executive experience many lack.

“John Cox ran in 2008 and no one supported him.”

So what? We will see if Cain can get traction, but I will say this - if Trump can get 20% support in a GOP primary - why not Cain?

>>Palin-Cain or Cain-Palin.

I’ll take either one on Election Day!<<

I think that’s how I will probably be thinking on Election Day too. Cain is impressive. I think he would make an excellent president and Sarah as VP would be even better than she is now in 8 years.

Who was the one who made a comment against the UN. I agree with him too.

Herman Cain. He has experience as a CEO, has been responsible and accountable for meeting payrolls, thinks on his feet, is devoted to the founding principles underlying our Declaration of Independence and Constitution, and is the only candidate among those on the current lists who would expose and demolish the Democratic contender in a debate. He could do that while, at the same time, making the predictable charges of "racism" by the "progressives" appear to be what they are--racist.

This is a reply to comment #22

“He needs to be a Governor, or at least a Senator. “

“He’s black...He is also too old and is not photogenic.”

Most of Obama’s bad ideas came from his white mother’s side of the family. Daddy wasn’t around enough to make a difference.

Eisenhower was neither a governor, senator, congressman nor mayor.
Ronald Reagan was 69 when he first entered the White House.
Abe Lincoln was homely & gangling.
Washington had ill fitting false teeth.

“White, young and photogenic”? Give me a break! Nice qualities if everything else is there, but WAY down the list of essentials.

Cain has a proven track record of putting businesses back on their feet and putting people to work.

The last thing the country needs is a kid who said, “I want to be president some day, so I’m going to law school then running for Congress.

No more Politicians!

No more lawyers!

I agree. Neither Ron Paul nor Gary Johnson will survive the final cut.

I called BS on FOX and Shannon for saying Ron Paul was the father of the TEA party..

That would Be rick Santelli as far as I’m concerned.

I didn’t know he didn’t have the degree. I wonder why he is misrepresenting himself. /s

Ron Johnson beat Russ Feingold last year in Wisconsin, in a marvellous win from an Osh Kosh businessman who came out of nowhere and had zero background in politics. It was amazing.

Herman Cain was the chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City in the early 90’s ... Herman has more to his background than just pizza. He stood up to Bill Clinton during the first health care socialism push.

I think running in Georgia in 2004 was a totally different environment than the one we’re in now, in 2011, post-crash and still flailing. I just wouldn’t count him out. I’d prefer him by a mile to Romney, Huckabee, or Gingrich.

He is also too old and is not photogenic.

This is so sad but it is true. I'll tell ya that todays election is photogenic/intensity persona. Who has both of these qualities? Trump & Palin. These are the only 2 that can win. Maybe Christie would be in the mix.

I thought they all did well. It's refreshing to hear a more conservative voice coming off the tube.

I think I agree most with what Ron Paul says. He's better informed than most, and has courage and integrity. He appeared a little old and frail and stumbled in his closing but I think he has more depth than any of the others.

Rick Santorum held up his end nicely. He was solid and consistent throughout.

I thought Johnson a little strange at first but he sort of grew on me.

Pawlenty was okay, but I found him forgetable.

I don't get the Herman Cain thing. Maybe it's because I'm a racist.

Of the five, the only one I would care to see as president is Ron Paul. But overall, a refreshing night.

You are still an idiot for this John Cox analogy.

It is flawed. it is meaningless. It is childish. It is irrelevant.

Since you have called all freepers racists, or race guilty, I demand that you give us one single reason why it matters a whit about John Cox. I don’t even know who the hell he is.

Or get over yourself. Are YOU John Cox? SHEEEEEESH

Herman Cain said he didn’t know what he would do about Iraq and Afghanistan. He’d decide once he became president and had more information. In one sense, it’s a safe answer, but it doesn’t make me feel confident him as a candidate. I’m not going to vote for someone who won’t give an answer on this question.

That is honesty ! How could he possibly give another answer, he is not privy to the intelligence.

Gary Johnson seemed much less metrosexual in his interview with Sean.
