Swedish physicists on the E-cat: “It’s a nuclear reaction”
NyTeknik ^ | April 6, 2011 | Mats Lewan

Posted on 04/06/2011 8:48:22 AM PDT by Normandy

In a detailed report, two Swedish physicists exclude chemical reactions as the energy source in the Italian ‘energy catalyzer’. The two physicists recently supervised a new test of the device in Bologna, Italy.

(Swedish version here, Italian translation here).

“In some way a new kind of physics is taking place. It’s enigmatic, but probably no new laws of nature are involved. We believe it is possible to explain the process with known laws of nature,” said Hanno Essén, associate professor of theoretical physics and a lecturer at the Swedish Royal Institute of Technology and chairman of the Swedish Skeptics Society.

Is a discussion thread where they discuss this

Sounds like a Scam, Looks like a Scam, It's a scam! http://blog.newenergytimes.com/2011/01/14/focardi-and-rossi-reality-or-scam/

Someone has already confirmed one of the Board of Advisors doesn't exist
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
The "board of advisors":

Quote:
Prof. Sergio Focardi (INFN – University of Bologna – Italy)
Prof. Michael Melich (DOD – USA)
Prof. Alberto Carnera (INFM – University of Padova – Italy)
Prof. Giuseppe Levi (INFN – University of Bologna – Italy)
Prof. Pierluca Rossi (University of Bologna – Italy)
Prof. Luciana Malferrari (University of Bologna – Italy)
Prof. George Kelly (University of New Hampshire – USA)
Prof. Stremmenos Christos (Athen University – Greece)
There is nobody named George Kelly at UNH.

The running theory is, he created a battery that actually puts out power, just not as much and for as long as he claims. He has all the chemical components of a standard industrial battery with the twist he claims he is using heavy water.

I like the use of the term “Nuclear reaction” because it fools the layman into thinking its legit. The fact is that things happen on an atomic scale all around us every day and those natural processes are also “nuclear reactions”.

http://katalog.uu.se/empSearch/?p_name=Ess%C3%A9n&p_email=&p_phone=

“Essén and Professor Emeritus at Uppsala University”

Essen comes up, but it is a Women’s Study professor.

Emeritus is just another way of saying retired professor, convenient.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Professor
Professor emeritus (Prof. em.): just like in North America (see above); used both for the ordinarius and for the extraordinarius, although strictly speaking only the former is entitled to be addressed in this way. Although retired and being paid a pension instead of a salary, they may still teach and take exams and often still have an office.

Google: “Professor Emeritus Essén” +Uppsala
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=opera&rls=en&channel=suggest&q=%22Professor+Emeritus+Ess%C3%A9n%22+%2BUppsala&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=

NOTHING

Google: “Professor Essén” +Uppsala

NOTHING

That is surprising for someone who is referred to as a Emeritus

I bet we will find that the Swedish Skeptical Society website is secretly registered and there isn’t any reason for someone to do this. I bet the registration dates correspond with this invention too.

I will look later if no one bets me to the punch.

The battery theory is one idea. Another idea is that he may have discovered a new way to create energy.

I am not advocating we should all invest in this or that we should all jump on this band wagon.

However, when you consider the possibility that this device works as he claims and what that would mean to the world, you have to look at it seriously.

From what I have read, and I am no physicist, the University has gone about this in a very deliberate way. A very scientific apporach of testing, review from within the University dept. of physics and then bringing in several noted experts as well as the press in deomnstrations that allow almost full access. The only part of the plant that is not being divulged is the reactor itself beacause of proprietary purposes. There is no battery that I know of that can sustain the output for as long as this reactor can.

If it is indeed “just” a battery, then the battery technology he has invented is miraculous in itself.

In regards to this being a financial scam I don’t really buy it.

The University made him fund all the research himself. The 1MW reactor is being built by a company with an board of directors that is independent of Rossi.

If he is indeed fooling us we will no longer call them “Ponzi” schemes. We’ll call them “Rossi” schemes. Because he sure is “fooling” a lot of people. Either that or he has done what he says he has done.

One other note:

I did try to find George Kelley and was not able to locate him. However the blog you linked seemed much more shady than the University of Blogna’s own annoucements. And the U of Blogna is one of if not the oldest institutions of learning in the world. For what it’s worth.

Please do not think I am attacking you. I would love to hear if you have any more info!

Fancy formated websites don’t mean anything, everything discussed on the blog is readily verifiable verses the one originally linked.

Someone pointed out, in many cases the group of scientists consisted of ‘one’ Rossi. Read the article with a critical eye.

It is almost funny.

We seem to be on opposite sides of this discussion so I will continue to play my part :) (Although I really could be wrong about everything I admit)

Let me ask you. If you invented a device that would transform the largest part of the world’s economy, would you announce every detail to the world? Would you do things to protect your invention? Would you invite people to study your device that you knew and trusted or others that were strangers?

This is just a question not in any way meant to be rude or sarcastic.

The true test will be the 1MW reactor in Greece. If that works it’s for real. Until then it’s still research.

I've been saying for a while, that I want the device to run for a month in an independent, supervised environment.

Generating kilowatts of energy for a month without any external fuel source would be pretty good evidence that he's got something.

You have to translate

av Göran Ericsson, docent i tillämpad kärnfysik, Uppsala universitet is who is identified in this article, different guy

This guy is actually at Uppsala, but he is an lecturer not a professor. Looks like he is working on becoming one.

Swedish Skeptical Society Does exist, but if you translate they sound very very skeptical. Not at all agreeing with the article. Saying that he wouldn't let them perform any direct measurements.

They did go to see it, but so far, looks like they give it a thumbs down.

QUOTE FROM THEM:
"But personally I would not bet a few of my saving pennies on this invention and its inventor."

The running theory is, he created a battery that actually puts out power, just not as much and for as long as he claims. He has all the chemical components of a standard industrial battery with the twist he claims he is using heavy water.

Last night (I apologize I don't have the link), I ran across a very long article someone had put together analyzing the E-cat from the assumption that there is a battery or other hidden power source. They went through a list of 'high-energy density' possibilities (hydrogen, Lithion-ion battery, diesel, etc.) and ruled out almost all of them. Something exotic (like burning boron or something) was the only thing that could explain the Feb. 10 test, IIRC.

I'm still seeing a lot of skepticism, but nothing robust in terms of debunking this and with no smoking guns. Most of the criticisms are circumstantial in nature (complaining about something in Rossi's past, or about some advisor, etc.) which has nothing to do with the hardware involved and the tests.

I'm not saying I'm fully convinced, but Rossi and Focardi are not engaging in a sales pitch with these things or making any obvious attempt to scam anyone of money. The work to demonstrate a 1 MW reactor in Greece will be the real test. If it proves out, I hope they are ready for the incredible tsunami of interest that results. I can't begin to enumerate the ways this would change the world, from the global collapse of utilities (why buy power off-site if you can have an E-cat in place of your furnace and water heater) to the all-too-just collapse of Middle East oil economies.

The face on Hanno Essén's university web page matches the guy in this youtube video where their evaluation of Rossi's device is discussed.

Here's Sven Kullander's university homepage at Department of Radiation Sciences, Uppsala University , so I'm guessing the article writer made a mistake as to which one was at Uppsala.

In any event, the two people discussing Rossi's device ARE, in fact, Swedish physics professors.
