Here is a list of the new Republican Ranking Members of the 16 standing Committees in the Senate.
Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Saxby Chambliss Appropriations Thad Cochran Armed Services John McCain Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Richard Shelby Budget Chuck Grassley Commerce, Science, and Transportation Kay Bailey Hutchison Energy and Natural Resources Lisa Murkowski Environment and Public Works James Inhofe Finance Chuck Grassley Foreign Relations Richard Lugar Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Michael Enzi Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Susan Collins Judiciary Jeff Sessions Rules and Administration Mitch McConnell Small Business and Entrepreneurship Olympia Snowe Veterans' Affairs Richard Burr
If you thought that some of the choices for House committee chairmen were dismal, most of the Senate picks are scandalous. The biggest rinos like Snowe, Collins, McCain, Hutchison, and Lugar are ranking members of standing committees. And yes, Lisa Murkowski is the ranking member of the Energy Committee! Way to go Mitch McConnell. On top of that, we have the biggest porker, Thad Cochran as head of Approps. And Mr. gays in the military, Richard Burr, as head of Veterans Affairs. The only good picks were Inhofe and Sessions. At this rate, it will take a decade for the conservative members to overpower the rinos with seniority.
The more things change...
Nice to see Lugar on the Foreign Relations Committee. He’s a real asset there...minus the et.
The Minority Leader doesn't have the power to appoint chairmen.
2012 and 2014..
Under “leadership” like this, we failed to pass a energy policy by one cloture vote.. the vote of a Rino, Coleman.
Mitch probably never even asked Norm to reconsider his vote is my suspicion.
This is what passes for leadership these days.
and folks wonder why we are in the place we are today. Gas 3.50 a gallon, rising food prices due to ethanol and drilling bans.
Go ahead, applaud if you will, but don’t hope for too much.. until the Senate gets a good enema.
Mike
Lugar—the ultimate cure for insomnia. The guy’s bones are built out of anti-charisma.
Well, in the U.S. Senate, mediocre is about the highest standard you can find...there are so very few that even rise to mediocre.
Take a look at Mitch. He doesn't want anyone to "outshine" him.
Mitch McConnell is a blithering idiot. The senate is the venus flytrap where Conservatives go to die. Think! Lisa Murkowski given a leadership role? I won’t even bother with the others. Maybe Michael Steel was lucky to get out of the Republican infrastructure. Who would pay a dime in support of this leadership team?
Pathetic leadership is a GOP hallmark. Time for a Conservative takeover.
The same wave in Ky that brought Rand Paul to office will usher out “The Gobbler” McConnell in his next election.
This illustrates just how far out of step the Republican Party’s leadership is with the grass roots.
Same with John McCain running for the second time. Of course, Bush beat John out in the primaries. Still, he did not deserve to be the best candidate we had during the last election
We do need the Republicans to make real change, and conservatives to come to the fore more. MOO.
...for those interested. :D
...KEEP HIS FEET TO THE FIRE!...don't let up
The thing we MUST do is keep our eyes on the Senate for 2012 and not get so involved in the presidential race that we forget to elect conservative senators into the majority. If obama should win a second term, we must have the Senate as a safety net.
The establishment Senate is going to be a big pain in the butt until we eliminate the RINOS in 12 and replace the Leader.
The topic groupings for the committees are putting my teeth on edge.
Ditch Mitch? Not many good ones in the US. Senate. Bob
