Sorry. Pet peeve. His disciples did not misconceive, they just did not see what Jesus saw until later (at the appointed time). Jesus did overcome Roman rule and He did retake the throne of Israel. He re-established His temple and did everything He was then prophesied to do.
Politically, he used non-violent tactics later imitated (but never duplicated) by Ghandi, MLK, Jr., Mandela. Frankly, I think the whole policial / nonpolitical divide is a non-sequitur. It’s all sacred, there is nothing political.
Or Psalm 24 is a lie. As I see it.

The church of Christ is a non-denominational body of Christians. They are all independant. There is no “national headquarters” or anything like that.
By and large the members are all very conservative people, and for the most part not into politics very much. No politicking from the pulpit at all.
The United Church of Christ is an ultra liberal denominational body. No affiliation whatsever to the churches of Christ. The United CoC is what Jeremiah Wright is attached to.

The difficulty is that although you and I know all the REAL Christian churches are independent, they come in two brands ~ and some outsiders that follow the Puritan tradition also use the name ~ with or without a capital "C" on Church.
Yeah, I could have gone into all the divisions withing the church of Christ, but it would be lost on most.
Big thing is that the United Church of Christ and the churches of Christ are daylight and dark difference.

Also a member of UCOC Barry Lynn the leader of Americans for separation of church and state. You're right about the difference between Church of Christ nondenominational and a conservative based church and the ultra liberal kick God out of everything United Church of Christ.
