President Obama Refuses to Credit America with Winning the Cold War - Video 7/7/09

President Barack Obama is refusing to acknowledge the central role of the United States in winning the Cold War and bringing down the Soviet Union. This is video of Fox News' Major Garrett reporting that Obama received a one-hour lecture from Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on the Cold War.

Later when he talked with Garrett, Garrett pressed him on his statement in a speech that the Cold War ended not because of any one nation but because of the actions of many nations and because the people of Eastern Europe and Russia decided it would end peacefully. Of course, Obama completely ignores the fact that without American pressure for more than forty years, conditions would have never allowed for the people of Eastern Europe to rise up. This President cannot bring himself to praise his own country or to even acknowledge the great victory won by the United States over the tyranny of Marxism. Sadly, he seems to be more at ease with former KGB thugs in Russia than he is with the proud history of his own nation. . . . . . (Watch Video)

Obama was on the enemies side during the cold war. He still is, the marxist quisling.

Ehh, why is this surprising. 0 doesn’t think we should have won the Revolutionary War, much less the Cold War.

I actually don't have a problem with what Obama said here. Based on the excerpt, at least, I don't see Obama saying that the U.S. didn't win the Cold War, but rather that the U.S. didn't win the Cold War alone. That is 100% true - though the Cold War would not have been won without the U.S. (and, more specifically, without Reagan), it also would not have been won without the strong yearning for freedom all over Eastern Europe.

In some ways, I think it's actually better to say that it was more than just the U.S. that won the Cold War, because I think it's important to remember that the Cold War was not merely a power struggle between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R., but rather a war between Freedom and oppression.

I really don’t think Obama has a very good grip on American History.

With all due respect, I think you are trying to put too fine a point on things. Of course there were many who worked to bring down the Soviet Union. But in looking at the big picture, it was not Poland that brought down the Soviet Union. It was the United States putting constant pressure on the Soviets for 40+ years. Obama’s intent was not to say what you are saying, but to diminish the idea that the U.S. was central to the defeat of Communism. IMHO

You could be right (and, given Obama's general outlook, I wouldn't be surprised if you were). I was only making the point that, in the excerpt played on FNC, Obama didn't say anything that directly diminished the U.S. role.

I realize that you can't take most things Obama says at face value. I was only saying that, if you did take this one thing at face value, it's not the end of the world.

Yes. I've known people who say that Gorbachev won the Cold War -- because he was wise enough to introduce freedom to the Soviet Union. It was Gorbachev, you see, who single-handedly dismantled the USSR by being brilliant enough to mismanage their affairs to such an extent that the whole thing completely fell apart.

It's nothing but an effort to declare Reagan a non-entity.

He missed his calling. He could have had a marvelous career as an author of politically correct history books.

It’s more as if Obama is the planned result of a few diabolical left wing socialist, marxist idealogues who took brilliant political advantage of an ignorant, pop-culture loving populace albeit aided to a great degree by Republican bumbling and missteps; and encouraged by a guilt-ridden, politically correct press corps who lost all objectivity and got on their knees before THE GREAT ONE!
