Army to Determine Whether Bergdahl Is Owed Back Pay for Time in Captivity

Thanks for doing the media’s job and quoting the controlling regulation. In addition, it would seem to me that since his promotion to E-5 was predicated on the time in captivity, that promotion would be voided and he would be required to return the higher pay received since his return to military control.

I suppose that if he is paid for the time in captivity despite being a convicted deserter, the individuals who defected to North Korea would be eligible for payment also. If I remember correctly, one of those was absent 20 to 30 years before returning and being dishonorably discharged. Quite a pay day he would have coming.

Absolutely agree, except for one thing, the only correct rating is POS Bergdahl and he should be promoted to room temperature ASAP.

Is not the minimum punishment for deserters reduction in rank to Private and forfeiture of all pay?
