Game of Thrones is an American fantasy drama television series created for HBO by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. It is an adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire, George R. R. Martin's series of fantasy novels, the first of which is titled A Game of Thrones. The series, set on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos at the end of a decade-long summer, interweaves several plot lines. I've read the books more than once (that's just what I do). I've enjoyed reading them. But it is far from an equal of JRR Tolkien. Tolkien wrote stories of struggles, temptation followed by redemption and good triumphs over evil.
GRR Martin is too close to reality of Medieval times. JRR Tolkien used his fantasy to tell stories of the gospel.

Actually I found Martin’s series to mirror the mores of life in the US today.
Sort of like red lipstick and the 40’s hairdo on the filmstars in historical movies of the 40’s and 50’s.
Execpt that TGOT mirrors every nuance of what we think and believe here in 2014. It will be dated in 10 years. and tiresome, like a 70s movie.
