Part of the Problem (Arafat)
National Review ^ | 10/8/01 | Michael Ledeen

In case you think that our State Department is right in viewing the terrorist horror in America as a great opportunity to push for a fine agreement between Israel and her peace partners, consider this: Just a few hours before our assault on the Taliban, the Voice of Palestine, Yasser Arafat's official radio station, "informed" its listeners that the FBI had discovered that Israel was behind the September 11th mass murder in New York and Washington, and had arrested several teams of Mossad agents.

This is the sort of thing that Arafat always says to his own people in Arabic, and gainsays when he talks to us in English. Remember that the Palestinian Authority threatened violent reprisals against any news organization that broadcast pictures of Palestinians dancing in the streets upon learning about the events of September 11th. It tracks perfectly with his two-track policy on terrorism: simultaneously training and supporting terrorists, and lamenting their excesses when it serves his purposes to pose as a moderate. It's an old story, but our diplomats have never wanted to accept it, because the consequences are fatal to their dreams of negotiating yet another treaty and staging yet another historic handshake.

In his great book on Communist Romania (Red Horizons), Ian Mihai Pacepa, the former chief of Ceausescu's secret intelligence service recounts his conversations with Arafat about the deadly terrorist group headed by Abu Nidal. It turns out that Abu Nidal was an Arafat creation that served a double purpose. It enabled Arafat to feign moderation, and it gave him an assassination squad to use against anyone who challenged his authority. I have always suspected that Arafat's relationship to Hamas and Islamic Jihad was similar, and this latest lie is of a piece with his overall disinformation strategy.

When a terrorist repents, there is never any doubt about the transformation. One of the most remarkable public statements about our bombing of Afghanistan came from Tripoli, Libya, from the mouth of Muammar Qadaffi, for many years one of the world's leading sponsors of terrorism. Qadaffi said unequivocally that we were right to attack the Taliban, that it was a clear act of self-defense, and that it was entirely in keeping with international law.

Somehow, I've missed Arafat's praise of the first stage of our war on terrorism.

How did Libya's formerly radical Islamist leader come to change his mind? He crossed swords with a serious American president, Ronald Reagan, who ordered the bombing of Tripoli after discovering that Libya was behind the bombing of a discotheque in which several American soldiers were killed. That bombing was carefully crafted to strike targets directly linked to Qadaffi's personal tyranny: his offices and residences (including his tents), the headquarters of his intelligence service, terrorist training camps, and so forth. Army barracks and the like were left untouched, thereby sending a message to the Libyan Army and the Libyan people: our fight is not with you, but with your leader. If he goes — and you might like to consider how best to accomplish this — we'll get along just fine.

President Bush has carried this strategy one step further, simultaneously bombing things that have to do with the despotic oppression of the Taliban, and airlifting food and medical supplies to the miserable refugees fleeing for their lives.

It looks like some Afghanis understand, if early reports about insurrection near the Iran/Pakistan/Afghanistan border are right. So we've got a workable model: bomb the bad guys, support the people they've crushed under their murderous regimes, and go after the individual terrorists.

But don't be gulled by the likes of Arafat. He's part of the problem, not part of the solution.

Something we never hear about on American TV is the viciousness of Palestinian TV!

As I stated here previously, the essence of Arafat's duplicity has an arabic name..

the practice of presenting one persona to the world, and keeping another secret, is a brand of spycraft not unknown in certain parts of the Islamic world. ''Taqiyya is what it is called,'' explained German terrorism expert Bassam Tibi. ''You are two-faced. You hate me, but you smile at me.''

As I said at the time, this describes Arafat completely, the latest example being his crocodile-tears performance for TV and western consumption on the day of the hijacking. I think we're beginning, finally, to understand Taqiyya..

How much longer will the US support this monster? Don't we give him billions in aid each year, while he calls for the death of all Jews?

We should not negotiate with terrorists. We should not side with dictatorships over democracies. We should not side with fascist economies over free market economies.

We should not push Israel into negotiating with this corrupted, lying, murderous Palestinian regime. I am not opposed to a Palestinian state, but before they get one they need to be defeated and reformed in the way we reformed Japan... by humiliating and humbling them, and forcing upon them a Constitutional Democracy that support and defends basic human rights for it's own people, including universal sufferage, free speech, free enterprise, free worship, and anti-war. Israel should not be forced to negotiate the creation of a nation that will end up as oppressive and brutal as the Taliban.

ACCUSING THE JEWS TO IGNITE THE FUSE
by Emanuel A. Winston,
Middle East Analyst & Commentator
October 8, 2001

Recall how Hitler incited Germany, proclaiming it was the Jews who created
Germany’s financial depression. It wasn’t because Germany lost World War I
and the Allies imposition of the Versailles Treaty - somehow it was the Jews.
The anti-Semitic propaganda in Germany quickly warmed the susceptible German
population to the idea that, in some convoluted way, the tiny Jewish minority
was the cause of the Deutsche Mark becoming worthless as it deflated in value.

On September 12th, I forecast that the Arab nations would blame the Jews for
what Muslim suicide bombers had done by hijacking four airplanes, bombing the
World Trade Center and the Pentagon. I further anticipated that a hostile,
liberal Media would dance to this tune. Hired PR agencies, drawing their
monies from Arab nations would be ordered to slyly beat the propaganda drums
that ‘somehow’ it was the fault of Israel. It is all happening!

Osama bin Laden, now under attack, made a video film wherein he joined his
hatred of America with the rationale that he was defending his fellow
terrorist Yassir Arafat in his goal to gain all of Israel for a new State of
Palestine. This video offered a professionally drafted script which was
crafted to appeal to the ears and minds of American and European citizenry.

Recall, too, that after Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait for its oil and cash
reserves, he declared that his ‘real reason’ was that he was attacking
Kuwait to free the Palestinians from Israeli ‘occupation’. That is not even
a logical statement. When Saddam cleaned out the vaults of Kuwait’s gold, he
didn’t share it with Arafat although it was Arafat’s 350,000 Palestinian
working at lucrative jobs in Kuwait who betrayed their host nation and led
Saddam to the hidden treasures and those Kuwaitis who might impede Saddam’s
progress. For this, the 350,000 Palestinians were summarily ejected from
Kuwait after the war as they were considered dangerous traitors.

Hitler knew how to light that short but volatile fuse by blaming Germany’s
depression - not on a war they lost - but on the Jews.

Recall when the Bubonic Plague was ravaging Europe, the Church and the
aristocracy blamed the Jews. The rage and frustration that could have been
turned against their rulers was turned against the Jews. Granted the Jews
were the only people who minimally took a ritual bath in a clean pool called
a ‘Mikva’ just before the Sabbath and at other times necessary for
purification. Granted the Jews washed their hands before they broke bread.
Granted the Jews seemed to be less stricken in their crowded ghettos. But, of
course, they did not allow garbage to pile up outside their homes to draw the
rats with fleas which carried the Bubonic Plague. Most people did not know
that basic hygiene led to good health. So the Jews were blamed. It became
popular to use this ‘blood libel’ of accusation against the Jews whenever
evil befell the general populace.

When Faisel al Husseini, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem in 1929, wanted to stir
up the Muslims in Hebron and Jerusalem, he falsely claimed that the Jews were
destroying the Al Aksa mosque which was built on top of the Temple Mount,
site of the 3000 year old Holy Jewish Temples. (Holy in Arabic is Al Quds,
their name for Jerusalem) At that time the Al Aksa Mosque along with the Dome
of the Rock, were left in ruins by centuries of neglect by the Muslims.
Photos taken in the late 1800s and the 1900s up to 1967 show the weeds
growing up through the paving stones where no Muslim worshiper had worn them
down.

But, Faisel al-Husseini succeeded in inciting riots that killed hundreds of
Jews. Later, during World War II, Husseini went to Hitler in Berlin, pleading
with him to bring his killing machines to Jerusalem to eliminate the Jews in
Eretz Yisrael.

Jerusalem and the Temple Mount were NOT Holy to the Muslims because they were
imbued with Jewishness. In fact, Jerusalem is not mentioned once in the Koran
and was anathema to the Muslims - until 1967 when the Jews liberated all of
Jerusalem, including the Temple Mount. But, Arafat has succeeded in duping an
accommodating and dishonest Media to carry the claim that his rage is all the
fault of the Jews.

So, the war against the Jews rages on as they, the Muslims, try to enlist the
Christian nations to blame the Jews for what the Muslims are doing to the
West. How easy it was to enlist Colin Powell who should have known better.

Today’s campaign to shift the blame of Islam’s war against America onto the
Jews has been adopted by the Left, the Arabists in the State Department who
feed the Media and the ever present anti-Semites of Europe.

So, will the same campaign of “Blame the Jews”, used so effectively by
Husseini, Hitler, Saddam, ‘et al’ again be successfully resurrected by
Arafat-Bin Laden’s Terror Mega-Organizations and the accommodating Left
Liberal Media?

If the weak response of some American Jewish leaders is any indication, I
would venture to say they will succeed in falsely blaming the Jews. Hopefully
our dedicated Christian friends will step in to speak to George Bush and the
Media to retract their claws.

Yes. Even crazed Jihadists, Mullahs and wannabe Islamic messiahs (Osama Bin Laden) can be humbled. The Japanese were a bit similar with their kamikaze pilots and their fervent plans to defend Japan until we dropped two big ones on 'em. The extremists Muslims have their breaking point. Definitely.

Once, just once, I would like to see some real investigative reporting from our so called news services. How long would Arafat and the PLO/PLA have the support of the American people after watching a Palestanian production of a Sesame Street type TV kiddie program showing the blessings and benefits of being a suicide bomber?? (don’t look so astonished – I’ve seen excerpts of this program, as well as anti-America/anti-Jew text from school books and cheerfully sung children’s songs extolling the wonderful bliss of being a suicide bomber). Why have we not seen live TV pictures of the Sabarro Pizza bomber museum that just recently opened in the peace loving state of Palestine? TV news – get off your PC butts and REPORT!
