Report: 100 Terrorist Groups have 'The Bomb'!

WASHINGTON — More than 100 terrorist organizations around the world have succeeded in obtaining elements for the construction of a nuclear bomb.

A United Nations report said the organizations have obtained the material from nuclear reactors in the former Soviet Union. The report said the terrorist groups have been leading clients of traffickers in smuggled nuclear goods.

The report recorded 550 incidents of nuclear trafficking since 1993.

As a result, the UN said, more than 100 terrorist groups are now capable of developing an atomic bomb. The report, first disclosed by the London-based Guardian daily, said worldwide smuggling of radioactive materials has doubled since 1996, Middle East Newsline reported.

The nuclear trafficking increased dramatically since the collapse of the former Soviet Union. Many of these incidents were not confirmed.

Western intelligence sources said the terrorist groups are led by the Al Qaeda group of Saudi billionaire fugitive Osama Bin Laden. The sources said Bin Laden is believed to have at least two nuclear bombs.

Last week, the UN held a conference in Stockholm on nuclear trafficking. The International Atomic Energy Agency urged the international community to strengthen regulations to prevent nuclear smuggling and trafficking.

The IAEA has recorded more than 370 confirmed incidents of nuclear trafficking since 1993. The agency said most of the incidents do not involve material that can be used for the assembly of nuclear weapons.

"Looking toward the future, it is clear that broad international cooperation will be needed to upgrade security measures, to improve capabilities for intercepting and responding to illicit trafficking, and to enhance the protection of facilities against terrorism and sabotage." IAEA director-general Mohamed El Baradei said.

"The most difficult challenge will be the effective consolidation of all these measures into integrated, efficient national systems, ensuring that the security of nuclear and other radioactive material is woven into the infrastructure of nuclear safety and security."

I say that any foreign national from a certain list of middle-eastern countries who is not a citizen or a permanent resident should be given a week to leave the country!

I agree. If Bin Laden had "the bomb", I believe he would have used it instead of hijacked airliners.

I disagree. They should be given a day, or less.

Maybe they are too busy on the Islamic "moon shot" project or inventing something that will change the world./sarcasm off

Yea, they are going to build a nuke but don't have running water, decent roads, electricity that works past 9 PM, etc.

I would hope they are not that stupid... The only good that would come from them nuking a city is the end of the world and I'm sure they know that...

I think he would wait until we retaliate. If he sets off a nuke without provocation the world would even more roundly condemn him. But... if he does it after we go into Afghanistan and they show TV pictures of 'collateral' damage he will rally the Muslim world, the so-called coalition will be off and we will be at war with all the Arab countries.

I can't say I relish that scenario, but it seems more likely than that he would have already used a nuke if he had a nuke.

Crime must really pay

It was all that short selling before the attacks.

Just curious. How long is the nuclear material useful for bomb making? Does lose its ability to "go boom" after a certain number of years or does this stuff last forever? I'm hoping that the Ruskies that sold that stuff knew it would be useless in a year or so and were stiffin' Mohammad.

They don't have to - they've already graduated with from many universities with almost straight A's. We gave them visas to come here and go to school remember?

Saddem Hussein has electricity, power, labs, and even scientists with the know-how.

Don't ever forget that our own illustrious Madeline Albright called off Scott Rider's UN weapons inspection team. Also, it was HER state department which was administering the visa policies that SHE dictated which let them in to come here and be educated and kill!

If I saw her face on TV, I think I'd vomit! Thank God she isn't showing it!

In certain circumstances, the bomb will lead to all out WW III ... in some others it probably will not. I think he will use it if/when this escalates to a point where we do not have broad based support and he does. The more this turns into a religious war in the middle east, the more (I think) we will lose support. At some point, I think he could use it, and all the cowards in Europe will turn away and shrug.

Just because you've got the materials doesn't mean you know how to put them together safely and properly. I guess they'll just have to send some of their young men to MIT.

I'm sure many are already there or have graduated.
