British Prime Minister Tony Blair says the shooting war will begin in just days.
America and Britain will no doubt launch massive strikes on Osama bin Laden and his redoubts.
We should expect a response from their side.
Osama and his backers, likely Iraq and Iran, thought out their terror plan well. Their plan was years in the making.
They were apparently clever enough to even short-sell stocks of companies that were affected by their terror.
For all we know, they may be planning on financing their war, perhaps having already bought stock options on major indexes in advance of more planned terror that is intended to force the stock market still lower.
The artful terrorists also realize this is war of public opinion. For one thing, they would like Americans to become so frightened we drop our longstanding commitment to Israel.
Another goal is to turn Muslim public opinion against America by having America declare war on Islam. So far, President Bush hasn't fallen into their trap.
Still, when U.S. and British forces respond in the coming days, this will give the terrorists their opportunity to claim we killed innocent Muslim civilians. It will set the stage for, in their minds, a justifiable escalation of the terror, with retaliatory strikes of an unknown kind against the U.S. and Britain.
Plans for the next terror wave were likely laid out well in advance, and may well be under way as we speak.
During this crisis Americans need to stand behind President Bush and make sure our politicians continue to support him as he goes after the terrorists and the nations that support terrorism. These countries are the real culprits.
It is startling that the U.S. State Department and British Foreign Office are using this situation as an opportunity to legitimize certain nations that support terror, including Iran.
Let us not forget that Iran is ground zero for the Islamic Revolution against the West.
I believe the greatest foreign policy mistake of the past 50 years was Jimmy Carter's decision to force the shah from power. Carter gave the green light for mullahs and the ayatollah to take over. After withdrawing support for the shah, a steadfast ally of America, Carter then had the U.S. military demad that the shah's military lay down their arms. As a result, Carter was directly responsible for the murders of 150 top Iranian military officers who were butchered by Ayatollah Khomeini's henchmen.
Thus, one of the most strategic countries in the world, wealthy in oil, was turned over to the hands of a madman bent on destroying America, as the ayatollah called us, "the great Satan."
Since 1979, when the shah fled, Iranian mullahs have been holding "prayer services" every Friday at Tehran University's stadium.
Every Friday for more than two decades, the "prayer" services always included the chant "death to America" – every Friday, that is, until the Friday immediately following Sept. 11.
Newfound sympathy for us from the mullahs? Don't believe it.
Last week former Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu told a congressional committee that Iran was the center of the Islamic revolution. He knows what he is talking about.
Before the Iranian revolution, Islamic fundamentalists were no significant force. Using Iran as a base, they have spread revolution. Egypt and Lebanon have been significant targets.
Soon after the fall of the shah, Iran spread its disease to Egypt, the cultural center of the Arab world. We know that Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood was behind the assassination of Anwar Sadat, one of the greatest men of the 20th century.
The same group has made untold attempts on the life of Sadat's successor, President Mubarak. This same group has ties to U.S. fanatics who tried to bring down the World Trade Center in 1993.
Iran is still the key player.
In recent years, it has been pretending to be moving to democracy, yet its government is still controlled by the mullahs. According to Israeli sources, the Iranians, with Russia's help, are very close to building nuclear weapons.
Who will Iran target such weapons against? The events of Sept. 11 should give us a clue.
There are those who might accuse Carter of some larger, hidden agenda to undermine America's interests.
He was, after all, a democrat, and the democrat party is well known as a nest of traitors.
But I remember the Carter years clearly, and I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
I don’t believe that he was clever enough to dabble in treason. He was a thick-headed, eccentric man, with a ‘Deliverance-esque’ family plucked from the pages of some grim Tennessee Williams play.
Stupid was as stupid did.
