The recent attacks from a number of sources on The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) reek of the same prejudice that, in the past, we have often seen used against Jews, Catholics, Muslims, and many others. This kind of behavior needs to be identified and condemned for what it is: religious intolerance and blatant bigotry.
These attacks on the Mormon Church have come in three forms: preaching, publications, and video presentations. Honoring the freedom to speak and preach from the heart, the National Conference takes issue with using the pulpit, any pulpit, to promote misleading, distorted, false and/or bigoted views of any religious body. An example of such a distortion is the growing use and presentation of two videos: "The Godmakers" and "The Godmakers II". These videos, developed by an anti-Mormon group intent upon vilification and hatemongering, are designed to misstate, malign, and encourage the hatred of a well established group of Christian believers and they ought to be repudiated by all people of good will...
...As people of good will, we in the National Conference of Christians and Jews join with our national leaders in the condemnation of any attempt to use one's first amendment religious freedom as a smoke-screen behind which one might hide while engaged in actions which must rightly be named as religious bigotry.

Heresy must be brought to light, no matter how distasteful.
St. Paul never shied away from preaching what was right, nor should the church.
Jesus constantly preached what was right, how can his bride do any less?
Christian leaders think differently.
Yeah, whatever...how you feel knowing that Obama is considering Harry Reid for his VP spot and McCain is probably going to choose Mitt Romney for his?
All religions are not created equal.
Joseph Smith did exactly what Muhammed and Warren Jeff’s did. Proclaimed himself a prophet and used it to gain power and sex.
LOL! Care to read the official positions of the various churches on the LDS?
Official positions and what one does with them are two different things.
The actions of many here have clearly been condemned by Christian leaders.
I’m in agreement with you.
There’s a difference b/w being “Christian” and Biblical in some cases, and this is one of them.
Mormonism is a Christian heresy.
“LOL! Care to read the official positions of the various churches on the LDS?”
And that counts for what? Various Christian churches take stands, and change them, pretty frequently. Around 50 years ago you’d be hard pressed to find a Protestant church that took a lenient stand on divorce or believed birth control was anything less than an abomination. Now divorce is more common among Protestants in the Bible Belt than among secularists on the east coast, few have more than two kids and many are taking liberal stands on homosexuality.
Given a couple of decades the only church that won’t be as liberal as the Lutheran Church of Sweden will be the LDS Church.
For the last several months there have been many attacks upon Mormons here on FR. Its difficult to understand the thinking of behind these attacks. The Mormons have every right to worship as they see fit. They arent out to force slavery, bodily harm or worse on anyone. Save the anger for those that are trying to ruin civilization.
Those same Jewish Priests went on to kill numerous early believers. Jews still maintain Jesus was NOT Messiah and still detest His name. We believers still belive in Him and hope to witness our faith to Jews today (as well as to Mormons.)
Claiming himself a Prophet and decrying Christianity an abomination of the "true faith" have set the LDS claims up for questioning especially from those of us who know a bit about our faith.
This is NOT anti-Mormon as much as it is pro-Christianity!
Yeah, but MOrmons are an easy target because they take the teachings of Jesus very seriously about loving one’s neighbor as well as forgiving.
If people condemn Mormons and mock them they won’t declare fatwas on them.
“The actions of many here have clearly been condemned by Christian leaders.”
As rjsimmon pointed out, not St. Paul. (Or St. Peter, or even Jesus.)
All religions are not created equal.
Brothers Billy and Jerry did exactly what Muhammed and Warren Jeffs did. Proclaimed themselves a prophet and used it to gain power and sex.
"...designed to misstate, malign, and encourage the hatred of a well established group of Christian believers and they ought to be repudiated by all people of good will. "
Why do so many radio preachers and would-be experts on religion spend so much time condemning Mormons yet ignore the dangers of atheism, humanism and the growing influence of Islam?
That ws Jimmy.
Or the homosexual agenda that is creeping into so many faiths.
It’s time to take a stand together, or as Ben Franklin said at the signing of our great Constitution:
“We must hang together, gentlemen...else, we shall most assuredly hang separately.”
“We must hang together, gentlemen...else, we shall most assuredly hang separately.”
True, the militant secularists of the far left see no difference between a devout Mormon and a devout Catholic or Protestant.
