Two questions for the astronomically knowledgeable:
Is there ANY natural satellite of the Earth, other than the Moon?
If so, how large is it?
To: Prodigal Son
To promote her sagging career, Madonna allowed the Hubble to perform an inspection of heranus. Of course, the media screwed it up and assumed she was talking about Uranus - thus the confusion about the mooning (or moons).

Yes. Earth has at least four natural moons, although the other three are in unusual orbits. Cruithne is the name of one of them. One day the moon itself will also be in one of these orbits that takes it far from the earth and back but still staying near earth's orbital track about the sun. Cruithne's orbit is horseshoe shaped, definitely not the elliptical orbit we are used to.

The remaining two are recent discoveries. One this year and one last year. Seems like there were FR threads. Cruithne isn't large, but the others are significantly small.

Well then, I've been "mooned" in the Uranus thread. An event to remember.

It's hard to stop, but even old sourpuss Immanuel Kant was known to crack a pun during lectures.

Catchy names, Cruithne and J002E3. I recall a fourth moon, but it might have been a re-reporting of the third.

Egad! You have mentioned the unmentionable planet! [Gasp!] You're right. I momentarily got carried away and lost all my gentlemanly inhibitions because of the naked title to this thread.
I shall immediately revert to the socially acceptable nomenclature for Planet Seven: The world that dare not speak its name.

didn't NASA just purposely bash a probe into Uranus?

Actually, there are probably many residents of San Francisco that would prefer to be around Uranus...If there were San Francisco style moons around Uranus and, Capt. Kirk dropped the keys to the Enterprise, wonder if he would chance bending over and picking them up?

didn't NASA just purposely bash a probe into Uranus? That was Jupiter.
Hmmm.. They also bashed some into Venus, our moon, and a few inadvertently into Mars.

The only interplanetary to ever reach Uranus was Voyager 2.
Side note. :-) We used the Voyager 2 spare dish as the dish on the Magellan spacecraft.
