And not very good, dear.

Even though a Northerner, I was read " UNCLE REMUS " at a very early age and still have the book. Now, it must be on the PC " black list ", but no matter, I still like it. :-)

Sholy now thats right. And just to show you how small a
world this is and how we live lives on parallel tracks ,
I lived for 15 years in Brentwood on Old Hickory Blvd at Hearthstone.

Doing MUCH better...thanks. :-)

I'm a Yankee myself and have absolutely NO claim to any Southern roots. I've just been on this thread proving that some foods/dishes are AMERICAN and not regional at all. LOL

But, I do have recipes for some amazingly delicious food. Just FREEPmail me and I'll be happy to give you some.

But I just can't help being an unreconstructed Southerner
because if i must forgo the old ways, then then new ways
must entice me to change.

KAAY Little Rock...Bleeker Street after midnight.

Desegreagtion at Christmas break in 69...we were held back for about a week or so while the courts diddled. Went with my dad down to the Clarion Liar at midnight to get the court ordered busing zones. I was at Hardy Jr High....went from 90% white to almost 50/50 and dropping as the semester wore on....a veritable adolescent war zone...stabbings...sexual assualts in the girls rooms....my folks yanked my ass after that year. Now Jackson Public Schools would need Sydney Poitier on every floor with a mac-10 to even attempt order...a hellhole and I think last I saw 90+ % black....good intentions sure have a way of working out..lol

Misissippi women??....hell that's the best crop the state grows without a doubt. I had no idea what a nirvana it was till I left. I feel doubly blessed to find a Nashville gal who can more than hold her own when we;re down there socializing. Mississippi gals LOVE being women...and it shows.

Key Lime pie is EASY , quick, and I'll send your good wife the recipe.

Strudel ( the HUngarian kind and my grandmother's in particular ) is heavenly and I've pulled many of my own. It's the poppyseed cresants, which my great grandmother used to make, which no one can replicate...not even me. My second cousin years for one. I gave her three different recipes ( from books, her grandmother, my great, took THAT recipe to the grave almost 43 years ago now. )and not a one of them worked for her. Mine is passable; just.

Trifle is YUMMY and easy. Nothing better than a good trifle, for afters, when one has a standing rib roast and Yorkshire pudding for diner.

Nothing " wrong " with being who you are; just as long as you're nice. :-)

New ways aren't always " better ", dear. LOL

I am doing better,too!

I have no Southern roots either, save this..
My family is Acadian, so lots of stuff that is cooked down South came from here originally..

The only difference, is the spices..
Meat pies, Bisques, Crayfish..all the same except for the spices!

Imagine that!
(Can I make a good Roux, or what!!)

I used to cook in a Cajun Restaurant, you bet!

You know.

I was not nearly as provincial till I came home after nearly 20 years away.

Do you think I'm overcompensating?

Maybe it;s Tennessee...yes...let's blame Tennessee.

Even my mom (Miss Mississippi 1952) says she would have never thought she;d see her once wild hippie freak adventurer first born who simply had to live in Manhattan (just because) would turn around and become even more provincial than she in middle age.

Ever the world traveler, she gets back from 10 days in Canada this week.
