Eric Burns is going to get a VERY nasty email from because of this comment.

I wanted to be a reporter because I wanted to let folks know what was going on - not to tell them what I thought was going on.

You, my friend, have discovered the secret of the seemingly inappropriate axis of power on many college campuses - Young Republicans and SDS. (YRs were mostly guys, and the SDS girls were notoriously loose).

I would argue that those who are attracted to a career in journalism are not necessarily the cream of the intellectual crop.

I remember vividly during the aftermath of the Loma Prieta earthquake when a popular news anchor in the bay area, with his teleprompter down, ended up mumbling "ebeeda eh, ebeddeh eh, uh, ebeddeh) for several seconds before his female anchormate had to jump in with some cognizent commentary to save his silly arse from further embarrasment. And a scance view of the "work" of most news "reporters", as well as a quick read of most AP/Reuters copy, in most cases quickly reveals a startling lack of knowledge and/or a reasonable grasp of reality.

In engineering college, we would say that "the limit of an an Engineering Major, as their GPA tends to zero, is a Business Major". I would further argue that "the limit of an a Business Major, as their GPA tends to zero, is a Journalism Major".

Strapping flame retardent underwear on now. :O)

Journalism from the beginning had a bad reputation as a reporting of what appeals to the sentations rather than to the intellect. Even intellectual journals contained little that could be read with profit twenty years later, except as a mirror of what seemed important at the time. And it was flaws by what it didn't know. Read the newspaper accounts of the Battle of Midway: one gets almost no sense that it was the turning point in the Pacific War.

Have a heart. He is simply an old geezer who has never gotten over the humiliation he felt in being replaced by CBS simply because he was 65.

We reached our intellectual adulthood with daily close-ups of inequality

Implicit in his screed is that liberalism is the more noble choice. In other words, we conservatives don't care about inequality. BS

"the crimes, the tenement fires, the homeless and the hungry, the underclothed and undereducated. "

Marxist journalists think that propagandizing these issues absolves them from actually having to live with and interact with the 'oppressed'.

I have never seen one who lived in a poor community to do their fair share, as they say.

...Anti-U.S. Internationalist WALTER CRONKIKIET...

...who recently shared his disgust with himself for voluntarily retiring from setting the country's TV News agenda 20 years ago...

...is now pushing the Anti-U.S. Internationalist HILLARY RODHAM's 2004 Presidential Agenda on us thru TV and his new National Column.

The Enemy is now Within...
and always has been.

“We reached our intellectual adulthood with daily close-ups of inequality in a nation that was founded on the commitment to equality for all.”

What a bowl of loose stool. The United States has never been, nor should it ever be, committed to "equality for all". Such a goal is simply impossible to achieve in the real world and will always be a dynamic for some sort of new misguided, profligate, and oppressive government program. In fact, all we set out to do in the United States is provide a legal system where all who appear before the court are subject to the fair and even handed application of the smae laws. We have no nobility in the United States. The problem seems to me that the weak minded but well voiced managed to get too much control over our national discourse, and we get the kind of slop Cornkite is sloshing around in.

...If the Network TV Anchors were hovering in the 25% Viewer Range...

...than there would be no need for HILLARY to hang on to them to keep her own Misbehaviors against us a secret from Voters like she is.
