The Russian Buran was viable, completely re-useable and able to fly to Mars, but it was cancelled.
Many projects have died in committee. A few are still being developed ad nauseum.

Pretty much, from what I've read.
Fact is, we need to replace Colombia. The fastest way would be to convert the prototype or the mockup and get them flyable.

The link says Pathfinder is just made of steel.
Enterprise actually did fly, so that's the only alternative I think, but I don't know if Ent was just a glider or if ti had engines.
