Thanks for posting this article. It's a concise and informative description of the event; the average person reading this should have little problem understanding.
I linked it at today's APOD thread.

Go to:
http://skyandtelescope.com/ They have a great interactive viewer where you plug in your location and then get a map of the heavens. My son said Mars was already plainly visible here in N. Texas and the optimum times will become more civilized (earlier !)later this month.

Just peachy when the sky's been overcast for most of the last two weeks.
I think I went out last Thursday AM for a while. Hazy, but no freakin' skeeters and West Nile/EEE possibilities.
I need more practice with my new 3X Barlow, too.

I guess this story finally made the'run-of-the-mill' news. LOL
"Something I read just last night: The planet Mars will be the closest to earth in the next month than it has been in the last 60,000 years. It hasn't made the 'run-of-the-mill' news yet but, it will. (You heard it here first)

I am concerned of Earth changes occuring due to the gravitational pull on Earth. Art Bell types are talking of earthquakes, potential pole shifts, and even Planet X zetta talk crap. But seriessly, think about the effect the moon has on our oceanic tides, who's to say that this might affect earth in some sort of fashion. Just my tin hat talkin here.

My son said Mars was already plainly visible here in N. Texas and the optimum times will become more civilized (earlier !)later this month. It's already bright. At first I thought it was Jupiter.

Anyone have the exact time when mars is at it's closest
To: NormsRevenge
