sgt. rock and the howlin' commandos

You could sleep tight knowing Sgt. Rock was standing guard.

In November, DC is releasing a new Sgt. Rock hardcover novel.

News Item - Dick Gephardt responded to President Luthor today by saying that he has merely expressing "machismo" and had no real reason to invade Quraq. Furthermore he poked fun at the President's baldness and offered the use of his eyebrow pencil supply

In response, President Luthor beat Gephardt to death with an ashtray and had his body dumped in a cornfield outside of Metropolis. Bill O'Reilly will discuss tonight why the President's actions, though critisized by some, show the type of strong leadership required in America today. We now turn to Fox News correspondent Clark Kent....

S'okay. Sgt. Fury was always a favorite as well. I used to have #1.

>Comics used to be patriotic

Superficially.
But they always presented
"normal" people as

hopeless drek needing
a superhero to fight
their battles for them.

(And let's remember
that "Man of Steel" really meant
ol' Joseph Stalin.)

There has always been
an undertone of "people
are sheep" in comics.

(It's my belief that
"Marvel Comics" was named for
Marvel Parsons, and

that links comics to
a certain group of people
and links them to a

very organized
global movement built around
libertarian

thinking. And this thought --
sometimes -- has as much contempt
for "patriots" as

anyone. I think
the organized comic world
is a strange, strange place...)

If they go left, they lose readers.

Sorry. I didn't
mean to have that gutter tag
on my above post.

I was serious,
and the sarcasm tag was
from a different thread.

I think a lot of the higher-ups are like the ones in the entertainment industry..."why would we lose readers? No one supports the war! I know because I've never met anyone who does!" Even Stan "The Man" Lee is a big lefty. *sigh*

Batman punch a cop? Not typical in my memory.

Well, Frank Miller's Batman probably would, but then again Frank Miller's Batman probably wouldn't be carrying the UN's water, either.

Miller's Batman would punch a CROOKED cop, perhaps. And he'd certainly tell the UN to take a flying bat-leap.

Especially one he knew to be only doing his job and trying to protect civilians (In this case from a fire). How ridiculously stupid. It's things like this that remind me why I'm not collecting comics, anymore.

Frank Miller's Batman would probably think "the hell with everybody" and kick Superman's butt.

Don't worry, when you hit 15 or 16 you'll get interested in girls, like most of us, and comic books won't be the focus of your life anymore.

Something to look forward to, huh?

They're not the focus. They're a hobby. I shared an opinion.

Do you have anything actually useful or intelligent to say?

If he follows your path, are you sure he'll be interested in girls? Based on your posting history, it looks like you're obsessed with the "other team", so to speak.

The entire western world has turned lefty. The only exceptions are the traditionalists and some libertarians in the United States. The end of Freedom is near.

Even Stan "The Man" Lee is a big lefty.

Bummer. I didn't know that. On which end of the spectrum-- Michael Moore or Joe Lieberman?

Haven't read a comic book in forever. Aside from the standard big titles from DC and Marvel, I used to love one titled "Manhunter." (from DC, I think) Does that ring a bell to anyone?

This shouldn't be news. Comics have been leftie since the 60s, at least.
