Before WWII, a very high percentage of Baghdad citizens were Jewish--I keep thinking 40%, but I don't remember for sure. As far as I know, they all lived relatively peacefully--Baghdad was a more cosmopolitan city than areas are today in Muslim-controlled areas. Maybe people remember this from parents and grandparents and they are frightened of this mixture again in today's heightened religion and ethnicity concerns (read anti-Semitism).

The current situation in Iraq is planned, expected, and will be dealt with. The attacks are to a great degree coming from "imported volunteers" (saudis, syrians, "palestinians" - actually lots of those, and iranians). The game plan was revealed quite early on (almost before the fighting was over, if I remember), as there was something that looked like a recruiting effort going on at a number of websites, among them BlackVeil's little hangout LibertyForum.

IIRC the Japanese emporer was considered "divine" and "infallable" right up until the mushroom clouds started to appear. It would seem however, that the Japanese are much more realistic and suseptible to rational argument.

It is scary that large portions of the population of the world believe things that are just patently untrue. For example, many people believe the moon landings were staged. They seem to be ready to believe anything but the truth.

I don't disagree with you about "wipe(ing) out Islam". It may very well become neccessary if they insist on either killing or converting us.

I'm not sure it is possible to wipe out Islam, and that's the problem. I believe the Japanese religion (was it Shinto?) was confined, for the most part to Japan, and was certainly not as widely practiced as is Islam today.

Seeing as its probably not possible, we might be best advised to find a different approach to dealing with them. We could, I suppose, drop nukes on Mecca, but, unlike 1946, we are no longer the only ones with nukes. I would never bomb Mecca if it meant that some raghead would bomb Washington, or LA or even New York. Plus the political fallout from introducing nukes might be able to be surmounted.

Isn't it already treasonous to advocate "the violent overthrow of the government"? Isn't that exactly what is going on in mosques all over the US every week?

Islam has been at war with the US for thirty years or more. The US just became aware of this on 9/11. This is a real clash of civilizations and might just call for the total defeat of one or the other.
