It would have been better to capture them. However, at least one American soldier was shot.
I presume that indicates that the Hussein's had no desire to be captured alive.
I suppose that stun grenades, snipers with dart guns, and assault forces armed with Less than lethal weapons could possibly have been used. However, the circumstances may have made it impossible.

I agree. Before it was fully confirmed that the two were dead, I heard on the news all sorts of discussions on who would try them, where, etc. Dead is better for these two, otherwise they could have lived, even in captivity, another 50 years before lawyers and civil liberties groups decided their fate. Yes, dead is better.
