"... which proves that the American Revolution was a waste of time. Since none of that stuff had even been invented by 1776." BRILLIANT!!!!!!!

Gee! Do we even have those freedoms here in America?
I agree that it seems to reduce liberty to little more than "commercial freedom."

A few months ago we were commenting on the general concept of exporting freedom and it was my contention that the only 'freedom' that could be exported was a superficial version of American consumerism.
Case in point, is Iraq. The policy of the ruling military government is to censor the press and also to confiscate guns. I can only assume that quartering soldiers has been standard policy since the end of March.
With that in mind, and in the context of the last paragraph, she is free to express government permitted dissent and buy things she could not buy before.
If she is aware and tolerates those 'conditions' on her 'freedom', what does that calling her piece a success story?

While on the subject of freedom, there is one question I have not seen anyone address: were Iraqis free to leave the country while Saddam was in power? I haven't read anything about an Iron Curtain-like grip on Iraq's borders.
